Some bad news!!! The rear rim of my SL's has cracked around one of the nipples- see attached pic!!!

The wheel has now been sent to the MAvic agents to see whether they are going to replace or not?

If not, the insurance would have to pay to have the wheel repaired!

Most user reviews I've read talk about a weight limit and that it's a less preferred choice for 90 kg + riders.

Eastons are the bomb proof wheel, reputedly.

:w00t:

Do wheel manufacturers actually display weigh limits?

Can't recall ever reading that.

I think it depends on how hard you ride them too!!! Evidently I ride them too hard

Yeah, just too much wattage when you're at your peak...

Btw in the 14500km i've done on them I've replace 2 spokes on the drive side of the rear wheel and had the wheels trued once.

Yah, the ol' weight bearing wheel works the hardest.

Got a friend who's cracked 2 x sets of Mavic's and another mate who's cracked 1 x set.

My son & I ride also ride Mavic but since we both under 85kg we've never had a problem.

SL's are good value for money - IMO.

What are their weight on the bike?

Does too much tyre pressure (relative to the rider's weight) have the brunt to whack a wheel rim or its spokes?

That's an interesting question, because of late I inflate my wheels to 8bar- use to inflate them to 7-7.5 bar.

The plot thickens...
