Polar CS 600 - flagship cycling computer with a 10m radius.

Problems: 1: Main unit did not transmit to the PC - replaced after two days of arguments with Polar

Problem 2: Erratic speed pickup on Ontdekkers Road - currently being investigated by Polar and I am using a temporary speed sensor.

Arguments to date from Polar:

Unit being held too close to or too far from Infrared comms device

Programme installed from cd needs updating

Impossible to be the unit

Computer has a problem

Is there data on the unit

Speed sensor

Magnet too far from pickup - why then intermittant in blocks?

Speed sensor moving - why three times in the same place on the same route? CS 200 gives perfect readings on same route.

Electric interference - on a coded signal? On one side of the road only?

Signal will not travel through water (stoker on tandem) - with a 10m range?

Speed unit too far from pickup when on rear tandem stays - with a 10m range?

Speed unit rotated by cycling dealer - signal range 10m?

Magnet not powerful enough - magnet used as supplied?

Anyone else with similar problems, or am I the only one?

The interfernce on the one side of the road can happen ! you will probably find the transmitting device on that side of the road ! happens to me ! music goes funky and heart rate is static close to telephone wires

From what I've heard about Garmin - the batteries only last 8 hours, and the riders of a recent race lost over 10km in distance to the other models....

I live in an area surrounded by High tension wires, telephone cables and cellphone masts. Within 4km either side of this menagorie of wires, the CS600 works fine.

Seems the specific coding on this model leaves a lot to be desired. As mentioned, the CS200 works fine in the areas where the CS600 loses signal.

Nope.  Got the CS600 in April and had about 5000km hassle free problems.....

Got mine in May, with the Power sensor.

The Power sensor had a couple of niggles, but the rest of the unit has been an absolute pleasure

Tandem Nut - please PM me if you need more assistance etc - please know the speed and cadence sensors need to be the W.I.N.D. model - the CS200 ones do not work.

Thanks Spinnekop

Not necessarily an internet nerd - please expalin PM.

The sensors - both cadence and speed are both W.I.N.D. models - as purchsed either with the CS600 unit or as a CS600 add on.

To date, the CS600 main unit has been replaced by Polar, the speed sensor replaced by Cycle Lab, the speed sensor replaced by a loan unit by Polar.

If the test ride tomorrow morning is not successful, another speed unit will be purchased in the meantime for an independent check on my 1/2 bike, and later installation on the stokers bars of the tandem.

Please note that all the other graphs work perfectly - it is only the speed graph which drops with none or poor intermittant signal

I am averse to putting the power unit on yet.
