Commuting to work

Recommended Posts

I recently started commuting to work and found that I have the talent to really annoy motorists. And I strangely enjoyed this feeling, so now I am looking for new roads to use and thus expand my enjoyment level.

Hope you guys can suggest some interesting routes in the Cape Town area.

Dunno about CT, I'm in Jhb but commute from where I stay (Olivedale) to where I currently have offices, in Houghton.

Thouroughly enjoying it!

You're a bit of a machine for a old fart!

I am just down the road from you at Melrose. Commute from Alberton fairly regulalrly. Go through Houghton all the time.

The general, skip the red light. Almosts stop at the stop street.....

Well I've been commuting since beginning of last year (6,5km) and found the best was to find a route with as little traffic as possible, wear hi-viz clothes and obey the rules of the road.

Then again I'm fortunate that I can cycle on cycle paths, quiet back roads and since I work flexi hours, I can leave when ever I want to (helps to avoid peak traffic).

Well if you skip the red light then you are a chop, and if I was commuting with you would have said the same .... I am sure the Darwin theory will catch up with you sooner or later.

Keep to the rules of the road.

Also consider the motorist as more of a friend and try to build relationships on the road than create enemy's.

I was riding along Riviera Road (Killarny) the other morning and after stopping to check there were no cars, slipped a traffic light only to find a pedestrian crossing on the other side of the intersection. So I gestured for her to "carry on", thinking it was polite and correct since I was going ah=gainst the traffic light.

Silly tart raved and ranted at me like I was commiting murder. Yep, I was wrong, but hey, there were no cars and I didn't even come close to running her down.

In hindsight ........

I don't blame them and rather frankly I don't like your mindset either. No lecture, just fact.

Good Luck out there!
