Hi Hubbers,

Some advice from wheel specialists would be appreciated.

Currently I have a SL2 which I ride with either Mavic Carbones or Mavic R-Sys wheels. The bike feels more responsive when it has the R-Sys on it - probably because they do weigh about 250g less than the Carbones.

Anyway, Hubbers I am looking at getting even lighter wheels than the R-Sys - would love to have a set of carbon clinchers but they must weigh less than the R-Sys wheels and have the same stiffness or better.

I have a buyer for my R-Sys wheels already, but that is irrelevant I suppose - maybe just some pressure for replacement wheels.

So the question is what wheels do I get in place of the R-Sys - need to be lighter than 1300g and same or better stiffness as R-Sys - I weigh 75kg now but my weight goes up to 80kg sometimes.

Desmond any ideas?

Looking forward to replies from this "Hub" of information

Regards

Fakes

Do you want lighter than 1300gr to train on?

Train and race with - I don't have separate wheels for racing only. For flat races (on non-windy days) I'd use the Carbones, and for hilly races use the R-Sys.

For training I alternate between wheel sets.

Why?

Speak to the KCNC agent... he imports the genuine EDGE composite range of kit and has a kickass light pair of EDGE carbon deepsection clinchers which weigh in under 1300 grams. I have seen and felt them myself and they are pretty (expensive too)

just my 2c

Why not look at my Bontrager XXX lites? 1250g tubbies.

You will be hard pressed to find a clincher set to weight in less. plus once you add the tires and tubes you're back up in R-Sys territory.

no weight limit means they are stiff as anything too!

Just my 2c, because you felt the need to include the word 'genuine' in that... they have now changed their name (ENVE I think (???) due to restrictions on using the name Edge). Awesome wheels though, but think the price will put you in the range of considering Lightweights and similar exotic wheels. As mentioned by other people, you are going to battle to find clinchers in that weight range and you will really battle to find anything that you would want to train on.

Thanks for all the feedback. Looks like tubbies are about the only reasonably priced option if I want to go lighter. I don't really want to go that route though because of the hassle with punctures, glue, etc.

I may end up training on the xxx lites.

I rode the easton tubbies to simonstown and back the other day as I hadn't changed back to my clinchers overnight...it was effortless. felt like I hardly had to pedal
