Thanks for all the replies guys. I think I'm gonna go Mountain King/Race King. I heard good things about that combo and I also see Covie's riding it so that just proves my point. Anybody cool enough to smoke while cycling gets my vote :D

I hate asking the guys at my LBS these sort of questions, they always act like I'm somehow inferior because I don't know absolutely everything about cycling. . . bunch of chops  But, it's 500m from my house so what can I do!?

Thanks, once again!

Excuse the hijack (although this is still pretty relevant)

Does a tubeless conversion (non-tubeless rims with Stan's conversion, UST Tires) hold air as well as a full, properly tubeless system or will you have to add some wind everytime you want to ride? How about ghetto tubeless?

I realise that everyone's experience with each system is going to be different but I am just trying to get a general idea - I have heard that UST systems never leak, whereas ghetto and Stans (or any conversion kit, really) tend to produce mixed results.

Is this true because I have been putting off going tubeless until I can afford to do it properly...

I'm running a conversion - had the LBS do it more than 2 years ago... They lose a bit of air over the course of a few days - but force of habit sees me pumping/checking the tyre pressure in any event, each time before I ride... Takes all of 30secs per tyre - so no biggie...

As I said - I probably don't have to all the time - but didn't once, and spent half my ride staring down at the wheels, convinced they were too flat etc etc etc...

Since then, I prefer not to let my OCD get in the way of a fun ride...

I run ZTR 355 converted with monorail and crossmark. Lose about 0.2 bar a week.

Stans should sort it out, the ryder sealant is too thick too seal the tyre and prevent airloss

UST tyres on non-UST rims still leak, the bead seal is not that solid

I have Fulcrum Red Metal 5 rims with tubeless conversion done. I am using Maxxis Monorails LUST front and back. I check my tyre pressure before every ride, and haven't lost any noticeable air over the last two months.

My Kenda Navgals (non-UST) lost a lot of air continuously. Got a nasty side wall cut up milkshake rocks, but felt it was a blessing in disguise.

Very happy with my current setup (though probably worthless for the coming wet season).
