So I registered early on Monday morning for the Lourensford 30km.

Later that day I start coming down with the mother of all colds. :(

Feels like my head is going to explode. I've tried Corenza C, Flusin, Viral Guard - everything short of cyanide.

Would it be a good idea to race on Sat or just give it a skip?

I have also just come/coming off a cold or flue thingie. It was mostly in the neck and head with my body also taking a bit of a beating.

Stayed off the bike for 5 days and did an easy commute to work yesterday again. The ride really cleared out the respiratory tract, but I very nearly ended up getting sick on the side of the road. Coming home though I felt alot stronger and also had more energy at work again. Todays ride was far better and left me feeling stronger too.

Watch your heart rate on a gentle ride on Thursday and see how you feel. DON'T take chances though if you are not feeling all that good. You only live once.

Good Luck

I did the Oudtshoorn 3-day MTB marathon (298.74 km's) with a cold and I'm still fine. :)

anything above the neck yes you can exersize with moderation

100%

Also my Doc commended me for commuting with my Heart Rate Monitor as I was able to pick up my flu before the time and knew when to stop.

She also explained that if it does not show signs of clearing up within 48hours of first symptoms, then its serious and your going to need meds and rest. So see how you feel tomorrow and rather be safe than sorry.

OK thanks everyone. Will take a short test run tomorrow evening and see how that goes.

In the mean time I'll medicate myself with some red wine tonight.... doctors always say "drink plenty of liquids"....
