Hey,

Why cant i find MTB slicks for a 29er on CRC? Do they even make them? Thinking of building a 29er but then will also be doing Argus on it, so want to know if MTB slicks are available for this or do i need to sukkel??

Normal road tyres will work just fine. (Both are 700c)

Flowta what about the difference in mtb rims to road rims?

The MTB rims will be wider than road, but not necessarily that much. I've run MTB tyres on a road rim before and many people use road tyres on 29er wheels without any problem.

Obviously the wider the tyre the better, just to be sure. Maybe some 28c or 32c.

Cool...Thanks Flowta

I learnt something new :)

just one more thing...what's 28c or 32c??? MTB bike slick tyres are measured in 1.3 or 1.5 so whats the former???

The one measurement is in millimeters (28 or 32) and the other in inches (1.3 or 1.5) - both are measurements of the width of the tyre.

Also look at the Cyclocross tyres - they also fit 29er wheels.

I recently sold a set of 29er wheels to a customer as a set of "road racing" wheels:

- 29er wheels fitted with a set of 28C Continental Gatorskin road tyres.

For all those out there looking for more speed from a set of slicks, here's another interesting fact:

A std 26 x 1.9" mtb tyre has almost the excact same outer diameter as a std road tyre of 700 x 23C.

This means you can also use a 29er wheelset with road tyres on your std 26" frameset!!

Bigger wheels, means more speed, so easier for you to stick with the roadies on your mtb. :D

That's interesting.... for less technical rides, it would be good to get a set of cyclocross tyres with good grip (more aggressive cyclocross tyres) and run them on 29er wheels with a standard 26er frame/shock....

Depending on Rim Width, you can use from 700 23C (23mm wide Clincher)upwards.

I have a set of 29er wheels with Velocity Rims and use Continental 4000 700 25C (25mm wide clincher) Road Bike Tyres on them just fine.

I also commute on the bike, so have a set of Continental 'Semi Slicks'(virtually slick in the centre, but with 'knobs'on the side - these are comething like 700 32C (32mm wide Clincher)

Take the wheel to your LBS, and ask them to try a road tyre on the time, if it fits, it fits, if it doesn't fit, it will not hold on the rim when inflated.
