Hi Sharkie,

I have a Garmin Forerunner 305. I use it for cycling and running. I am looking for a place on the web to download the routes others have cycled. Can you perhaps assist?

Thanks

I went from a Polar S725 to the Garmin Edge 500 and love it.

Pros for Edge 500:

Garmin GPS means no magents, pick up etc.

Garmin GPS means not having to switch between bikes on the Polar (I have bikes with 3 different size wheels and the Polar only allowed 2).

Garmin screen is fully customisable - I put the info I want to know on one screen.

I boought the premium HR belt and it's better than the Polar - the standard Garmin belt is worse.

Auto start/stop - for some insane reason the Poalr S725 didn't have this.

Sits on the stem rather than the bars - it used to irritate me when I climbed.

Pros for Polar:

Polar software kicks Gamrins ass - much more informative and user friendly.

Battery life is waaaaaay longer.

You can put it on your wrist - I run sometimes and the Edge 500 is an issue (I'm looking for a Ipod style wrist/arm holder.

Like some of the other posters I think Garmin has taken the lead in the HR market.

I agree.

In April I switched over from Polar to Garmin. Got myself the Edge 500. It is awesome! The customizability is fantastic!

I have both.

Garmin dirty and dusty from use every day, Polar dirty and dusty from having been in the back of the cupboard for a year or more.

They really don't compare. Besides, has anyone actually said out loud that it is REALLY naff to wear your Polar as a watch?

I know of people who had a lot of problems with their garmins...the watch just dies, or it gets moist in while running,etc...or it give sensor problems....

Personally paying R4000k+ for a watch that give issues before its a year old...STAY AWAY...well thats my opinion...

hmmm ... the Egde 500 is not a watch

The battery connection on the Edge 305 was badly designed and caused the units to die mid ride. This was sorted in later versions and completely redesigned in the egde 500/800 range.

My vote = Edge 500 all the way!
