I received a new Garmin last week and was playing with it here at work.

I just did the firmware upgrade and then switched it on at work and it dont pick up satellite signal. Can it be because of the area?

Secondly I have noticed that the speedometer pickups 1 to 3 km per hour while laying on my desk. Is that normal?

Just go outside and have a look, when it still does not work then you know for sure you have a problem. Otherwise we gonna to start having a very detailed debate on what type of roof you have at home compared to the roof of the building you are in currently, etc, etc...

Will do that later on but now why does she pick up speed and distance while laying on my desk?

This might be a far reach of a guess but the strength of signal could be contending with 2/3 satellites outside your windows and thus bouncing from one side of the building to the other as there is no clear signal above it.

Hi Joey

I have the same issue with my garmin 305. I was given the reason that as it serches for links to the sat's its has to keep recaculating its postion and as it finds diffenrt ones it takes a while for it to click that you are not moving.

Not sure if its right but as soon as its has a clear area it works fine. At one stage i was doing 65k's seated at home :)

Joey, I don't think that you must be concerned at this stage, as signals are not always picked up inside a building. Go outside and test your unit. The Garmin often indicates a speed and elevation reading after a start up, which will return to zero levels once it has reset it's self.
