Why race Cat 2 then? Its going to be a 40+ party? Who are you going to race? All the prize money and podium spots for the 30-39 cat is in "Cat 1"

So basicly you are going to join me in Cat 2 to check out the chicks?!! :D

This set up is too confusing. What we need is a detailed explanation for each category as to who qualifies to race in each cat and the qualifying criteria, team requirements and associated costs, distances to be raced, and prize money allocation. As I understand it there is overall prize money in each category and prize money for each sub category within each category. I am wrong and does this make sense?

Spiddy, like you, I am sure most of the Vets don't care about the prize money, all we want is to be able to race agaisnt like minded people who have to same frsutrations and challenges to training during the week.

I simply refuse to be put up as cannon fodder for the pros who can train 15/20 hrs a week versus my 10 on a good week. I would love to understand the thinking behind the current structure of cat 1.

The start of the year is going to be interesting. Maybe I will also go down to A Group. Will there be girls to look at there? :)

I have mailed CSA to get some clarity on the matter and was told that Ciska Austin would be able to help. I am awaiting her mail.

Gary....maybe this doc will help sort out your confusion?

Here is the final draft doc:

Spidey there is no mention of Vets 30 + in Category 2 but on the previous page it has us (vets 30+ ) in Categort 1 and/or Category 2?

from reading the doc, the key thing here for Vets 30+ is an explanation of the difference between a Top Team and a Recreational Team. The latter races cat 2 and the former cat 1. The only info on a recreational team is:

Veteran Men 30 – 39 (Category 2, Recreational Club)

1. Racing Conditions / Basic Regulations:

a. Veteran Men 30 – 39 Recreational Clubs will be allowed to start in Cycling SA Category 2 events

b. Veteran Men 30 – 39 Recreational Clubs will not be eligible to ride in the Category 1 events.

c. Veteran Men 30 – 39 Recreational Clubs will not be eligible for prize money.

d. All Recreational Clubs racing in the Category 2 Events still have to present a qualified, registered and contracted manager together with the application. Cycling SA to be a co-signee on this contract as well.

e. Recreational Clubs with the same name / main sponsor / clothing as a Top Club will not be allowed to start in the same Category 2 event.

f. Team vehicles have to follow a minimum of 4 riders.

2. Team Composition:

a. Maximum 6 riders

3. Registration Fee:

a. R500 per team

b. Membership & Licensing Application Applies

Either way, it still seems as though individual 30+ riders will be forced into the seeded categories.

the definition of a Vets 30+ top team, which can race Cat 1, is:

B. Veteran Men 30+

1. Racing Conditions / Basic Regulations:

a. Veteran Men 30 + Top Clubs will be allowed to start in Cycling SA Category 1 events and will receive preferential entry and race starting treatment at all Cycling SA Top Competition races.

b. Veteran Men 30 + Top Clubs will also be the only teams allowed to start in any registered category racing in South Africa save for Interprovincial and South African Championships.

c. Veteran Men 30 + Top Clubs will not be eligible to ride in any UCI Elite or U23 events.

d. All teams will have to present a qualified, registered and contracted manager together with the application. Cycling SA to be a co-signee on this contract as well.

e. Rider contracts must make provision for penalty and / or suspension if team rides non-sanctioned events.

f. Top Clubs with the same name / main sponsor / clothing will not be allowed to start in the same Category 1 event.

g. The only recognised contract between team and rider will be one providing Cycling SA as co-signee on it. This contract will be the only contract used during all Rider and Club disputes.

Team Composition:

a. Min 4 riders – Maximum 6 riders

Registration Fee:

a. R1500 per team

b. Membership & Licensing Application Applies

what i find strange about the whole thing is, i cannot understand how any of this will make our elites more competitive, which judging by the recent commonwealth games results should be the main priority of any road racing regulation changes. all these rules seem to do is primarily screw up a vets system in SA which is working quite well already in my opinion

My doc was/is "Draft". Pundent posted the latest info as per above.....

ok, the version of the document attached above is different from the one i was sent and that i've been extracting from. my version says it is approved by the road commission on 11 Oct 2010 and was sent out yesterday by CGC. I am assuming my version is a final one and the one attached above was a draft? one difference i've spotted is the vets 30+ Top Team in Cat 1 versus Recreational Team in Cat 2. I can't attach it as it is too large, even when zipped

That is such a load of polony. So if I want to support my grandma's kerkbasaar pretry in Tweebuffelsmeteenkoeelmorsdoodgeskietfontein I will get a fine?

So.....

For the 150 odd Licensed Vets 30-39 of 2010 the options for 2011 looks as follows:

Option A

  • Ride Cat 1
  • Get a team
  • Keep the sponsors happy
  • Ride longer races
  • Compete with Elites
  • Two 'races' within the bunch
  • Pay R1500 plus my R350 plus R75 to get in
  • Get a manager
  • Sign a contract with CSA

Option B

  • Ride Cat 2
  • Get a team
  • Loose my sponsor as there will be no TV coverage or podium posisitons
  • Two 'races' with the bunch
  • Pay R500 for the team plus my R350 + R75 to get in
  • Get a manager
  • Sign contract with CSA

Option C

  • Rice Open batch
  • Ride individual or as team, doesn't matter
  • Loose my sponsor as there is no podiums or TV
  • Racing within equal ability
  • R75 gets you in
  • No managers. No support cars.
  • No contracts
  • FUN!

uuuuummmmm...............let me think about this........ <_<

The ONLY reason is $$$.

More teams = More $$$

Why force a Cat 1 Vet? Boys like Mr. Lange planning a Vets team for 2011 the birds tell me? Maybe to accommodate them?

Will it HELP THE DEVELOPMENT of the youngsters.......? NO. Have to agree with you on this one....

Personally I think Vets are over rated. A system created for $$.

You should race according to ability.

If guys like Andrew and Jac-Louis are faster than me, why make them race Cat 2 if they are Cat 1 riders?

AGAIN.....I cannot say this more.......This is Easy.

Two groups:

  1. Pro Bunch - Contract. Ride for money. Team. Long rides. Development. PDI. Managers.
  2. THE REST seeded according to ability!
