How about the new 55-250mm IS just over R3000. Good enough for general use.

Minolta Digital or Film?

 

Howit Crux, still SLR. 

 

For the SLR with this lens the biggest drawback is when the light conditions suddenly changes.  I nomally shoot with ISO 200 in sunlight, but when it get a darker or cloudy, I obviously cannot change the speed of the film and the shutter speed suffers.  A DSLR would have been great, but I can only dream for now.
