Hi Hubbers

I just recently got myself a set of Dura Ace 7850 CL24 Clinchers.

They are absolutely awesome wheels, however the Dura Ace skewers are quite heavy.

The weight is 128grams and I was considering replacing them with the KCNC skewers.

They featherlite weighing only 44grams (claimed).

Anyone using these?

How secure are they and strength, durability etc?

Your honest input will be appreciated.

Regards

Yep, they are awesome . I replaced the standard skewers that came with my EA90SLX's with these. They were of similar weight to your DA's.

No problems with the KCNC's so far . I am just slightly more careful when I tighten them , tend to pay more attention and don't over tighten.

That is a pretty big weight contrast.

Are you sure that the 128 isnt for both dura's and the 44 is for one kcnc?

In my mind skewers are one of the last things on your bike to change to start dropping weight.

It just sounds too much of a difference though.....

I am holding my cellphone which I have weighed at 100grams and saving that amount just off skewers doesnt sound quite right......

Can somebody please post me pics of them on scales to verify the claims? (the old heavy ones along with the new light ones)

Well, I can't prove it as I stated in my post CLAIMED.

But this might help... click below-

Don't spend your money just Yet!!!!!

I also had a set of DA 7850 CL and already had a set of KCNC skewers but could not use them.

The Shimano skewers have a axle diameter of 5mm and the kcnc ones are 4.3-4.5mm thick. This creates a micro gap in the closure and although you cannot pick it up while fitting the wheels. When you ride there will be some movement between them.

This creates a creak in the rear wheel and enough flex to touch brake pads on the rim. Less so on the front but still there.

The same goes for my new Shamals and Boras :(

I am yet to find a set of Ti skewers in a proper 5mm axle.

you can actually feel axle thickness difference in your hand.

I am looking for a solution as I have a set of Token skewers at 46g and a set of KCNC at 44g that I cannot use.

The new token skewers say 5mm thick onthe box but when measured with a vernier they are also 4.5mm
