Where is this Ertjies Berg? I lived in Vdbp for several years and don't remember any hills.

that is an option... much of a muchness ito having to drive mile to get wherever! smileys/smiley2.gif

just ertjies isn't half as bad... but it has really nasty memories of the workers day challenge... tandem too big for me to pilot so visually disabled buddy was piloting and just ducking for me to do a  "compass check" the whole time, my seat post kept slipping down and my knees ended up hitting my ears the whole time... aaargh! smileys/smiley36.gif

if nothing comes of the suikerbosrand idea i might just call you...

If you go out on the Vdbp-Potch Rd and turn left towards Parys on the Parys-Fochville Rd you get Ertjies Berg.  Ertjies Bezuidenhout (oom to me!) used to do his hill training there while he lived in Vdbp.

Must say, not as steep as Swartkoppies, but can be fun!

OK thanks, will have to come do it with you sometime. The wifes family is all living in the Vaal Triangle so we are often down there.

Gonna be doing the Swartruggens Toll booth and back route this Sunday. Should be fun in this cold, and with the wind probably blowing a gale!!

I remember Ertjiesberg from Ultraman in the mid 90's, like others have said not as steep as Suikerbosrand (It's the sting in the tail that hurts most!) but still good training!

As much as there is complaining about Suikerbosrand it is worth climbing it just for that great descent afterwards, no cars, sweeping corners, what more can you want? Just careful of the buck!

DT - go look at the topic of "This sunday's ride (25/6)" and you'll find the profile etc. it's just under 120km but it's got a mean little climb in it

please respond urgently so that we can finalise plans....

Dont worry if you have made Vdbp plans. I want to get LSD in for the RMBC MTB 6 hour. There is my backup MTB group who are riding on Sunday so i'll tag along with them

ok, here's an idea... seeing as backup vehicle is a prob let's meet at the bottom gate at the reserve at 7:00 (DT, there's travelling time to get there and it's too cold earlier than that) and then we do loops inside the reserve. DT, that profile is of the main climb - with the distance we did that day there was the issue of hte "there and back" factor so we didn't do loops inside (other than epoh who did an extra 10km with the HiQ juniors
