dylankeyter Posted October 2, 2007 Share hi all. i have ridden about 1500km on my bike and my local lbs say its nearly time to get a new chain. i find this very wierd, considering the low mialege. what is the typical mileage one gets on a road bike chain? (Scott Speedster 10 with ultegra components) Bike has been running smoothly so I was very surprised to be told that my chain was "fish curry"!!!! The chain is less than 3000km and I clean and lube it before every ride. Worse still is that my cassette, which I put on new for the Jock has suffered some damage as well. I was given a crash course and demonstration on a bike's drive train and I must say my attitude received a sharp adjustment. Appears that a chain can last only 400km but some can last 4 000km. So you doing big blade means more strain on the chain so it wont last as long as my wife's chain for example....she is almost never on the big chainring so the stress on the chain is not that much.....uou know what i mean. Soooo....that is why my chain lasts me 4 months my wife's chain...still OK after 12 months! Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
