I reckon that whatever it costs to do that race is worth it. Which other one-day race offers such sweet downhills ? Inchanga, Botha's, Fields... Yum!

12 Million is not much.  The Argus is well over 200 million. 

 

Too me none of the two is a great expense.  I normally manage to combine the two trips with business.  So the transport and the part of the accomodation is paid and the S & T covers most of the chow required.  I have to fork out only a little extra if the family comes along but then again they would have to eat if they were gonna stay at home as well so it would only be a bit of accomodation extra.

Cost for Amashova train is R750 this year. I believe its the last time such trains will be running as spoornet has a problem with sleep over trains.

If this is true the better start making alternate plans for Argus.

 

I received my notice for the train for next years argus, so I think they are still running,

I will keep you posted when I get the updates.

Hey Scotty, PVt, seems that the Railways are changing their legislation, hence the reason for less tour operators.

The other problem is the train schedules.

spoornet have a major problem  we sit here in Saldanha and our company used to get 3 trains per week with steel from Vd bijl park now we get all by road. Spoornet just cant supply dont know if they are cutting costs but it is not the same spoornet. Hell man i remember my train journeys as a kid coming down to cape town from durban and that early morning coffee at 6am. Eating in the Dining Saloon and the guy in the corridoors with his gong  still remember the old wooden coaches with the leather straps to hold the bunks up and the green leather with the little springbok engraved on the windows . jis likes that was a few years ago

...and sometime the train would be held up by robbers with bandanas over their mouths and six shooters. Every now and again their were a women tied up and layed over the tracks.
