Right good stuff....

The general consensus is not to buy XT wheels too expensive to fix when they break, which they have been doing quite a lot lately. Mavic are apparently out as their bearings are rubbish and need very regular maintenance.

Not got the cash to build Hope II on ZTR Crest or olympic, got a quote from a wheel builder who said at least R4,500 for any custom set. so what are the choices....

DTSWISS X1800? Too heavy

AC's coming up again and again...anyone broken one of these yet?

Fulcrum Red Metal 5's???

Personally I think you can't go wrong with Mavic, but seems like they (UST versions ie SL or SLR) will be out of your budget anyway if R4500 for a custom set is too expensive.

Best value for money is Mavic Crossrides and you could ghetto tubeless them.

Also look at Bontrager wheels for affordable tubeless wheels.

Hello,

We have raced two sets of the26" M775 wheels( Nat XC, XCM and other) for the last 3 years and if you look after the bearings they work very well. The alignment does go out but they have hit some large rocks and are still round.

I also have the same XT in the 29r and they are great.

In this time i have had to replace bearings once and two spokes, yes Coolheat does not have stock now and then but i have brought spares 5 each size so no problems.

The best thing with these wheels are the fact that they ARE proper tubless rims!!!!!! no rim tapes.

I went for these wheels because i wanted something that was bullet proof and would finish the races, which they have (son won Jnr 50km at 94.7)Took 1/2Hr to grease and put back together night before race. You need 17mm cone spaner and 2 allen keys.

You will not go wrong with these wheels

STAY AWAY from these wheels.

Do yourself a favor and try get a spoke from three of your closest LBS. They will say they can get it for you but the truth is Coolheat or who ever distributes shimano do not have any stock.

I have just phoned all the cycling shops in my area and no one has stock.

Its 3 different spokes per wheelset so you have to be specific.

When this happened once to me with my Campy Euros on my road bike the distributor stripped a complete wheel in order to supply three spokes  . My LBS got this arranged and I was really impressed.

Just got an XT wheel set for my 29er and while it rides and handles superb I am wondering if that was a good move  . My previous set, 26" ACs, went onto my wife's Giant. These were bullit proof and besides my 95 kg and some punishment at Groenkloof never showed any fault. Miss them a lot.

Well you have maded me walk to the garage to check the pricing on the spokes!!!

I do not know were you got your pricing for the spokes but i paid R42ea for my 29r spoke,s and that was at the begining of the year before pricing started coming down?

I just called the LBS and thats the price I got.

You sound like you know what you doing, I wouldnt be able to put the spoke back in so that price may be including labour?

I have aset of each AC and XT both good wheelsets

the AC quite a bit lighter and both are proper tubeless so no rim tape etc

The AC has a bit of a section which I assume gives it strength and they run very smooth

I use the AC for races and XT for jolling

I weigh 100 kg

I had a mean crash at the lourensford cut in the front tyre so did a bit of rim riding, no damage bar a small scratch ( it was quite a spectacular fall if I say so myself )

I had an issue with my XT rear hub but to be honest its not worth fixing and the wheel runs absolutely fine( just keep the hub cones greased)

a new set XT 2900 and a new set of AC 2010 tubeless 4000 from a guy in CT
