  8. What it came down to for me was that for my money i built a bike with what i wanted on it and not then have to change anything after paying R50k + I also looked at the cannondale 29r, but for R55k you would have to change things as it came with a jelly tot mix of components!!!! Look around and make very good friends with you LBS. my build R45k for R60K bike bottom line build what you want, as you are going to have to live with it for a long time?
  9. Hijack I was looking at a new 29r for this year choices were: trek Superfly 100,Scott Spark,Tall Boy,Niner jet 9 RDO Trek was full XT but the cost difference between al vs Carbon was to much Scott, tried one and did not like the way the fork and shock lock out together, also did not feel right. HT was great though So down to the tall boy vs the Niner. If you read up on the over seas sites these are the two bikes worth going for both are very highly regarded. In the end i went for a tang niner and it rides like a dream, looks great and handles very well in the tight stuff, it also climbs well. my build cost was a lot less(R15,000) than both the trek or Scott and i got a bike with whati want on it not some account in an office somewhere!!!! On the fork difference i have seen that in the US they go for the 120mm fox Talas so it can also be used in 100mm. Wish i had known before going 100mm fox. I also went for full XT, the system is bullet proof and i need to lose 10 Kgs before spending lots of money on XTR/XX which does the same thing for minium weight loss My 2 cents or 15K
  10. Hi, I have a helmet and 2 cycling computors that were handed in at the race today. If you have lost any of the above and can describe them to me i will make sure that they get back to you terence
  11. Hi, I am also in the process of going through setting up my fork and shock. i have a Fox RLC 100mm fork, Question before measuring the sag were should the slow compression knob be? and what setting for the Rebound? these will affect the amount of sag??? Shock is a Fox RP23, same question in what position should the lever be in ? off with compression on "0" and which way for the rebound, fast or slow? this will also affect the sag Can not find answers to these anywere on the web????
  12. Hi, Phone Raeleen At CGC as she has a list of contacts in Soweto 011 4659635
  13. Hi, SASCOC has told cycling SA that it has to fall in line with all of the other sports or be put under there control. As it stands until next week the current " CSA has 15 provinces of which PPA because of history was regarded as a province with voting rights SASCOC say,s that the country has only 9 provinces so that is how it must be reflected, thus PPA is now only a club that falls into the WC AS for Gauteng it will now become one province but with 6 sub regions that will have to be set up these will then filter down into smaller regions. This has a profound effect with regard to development as now cycling will be reconized at school level Hope this helps?
  14. The CGC website has been going through an upgrade and change of service provider. the dates should be on there i will check why it is not there. All of the races are on the CSA calender site? I will post full details on the events section
  15. A lot of MTBr,s ride in the area as well. The Chairman of the craddle Ass is a very old friend of mine so it makes it a bit easier to get past the politics.
  16. Hello, I have been talking to the chairman of the cradle residents Ass and we are trying to find out who it is, there was some found last week by the lion park and the lower circle. We need to find a pattern to these pins being dropped on the road. If you have any information as to the exact location on the craddle please email me , mtb@cgcycling.co.za The res Ass also want to put a stop to this and through the craddle watch system are on the look out for the people responsible.
  17. Hi, Does anyone know about the guy that fell by the highway cut on head????? medic,s went out course swept but could not find anyone would like to know he is ok?
  18. My wife is (was) riding very well we rode almost every day over Xmas, until she said that she wanted to do a 15km run. So i talked her out of it and said lets go for a ride down the spruit with a few other couples. She held her own and put a few male riders to shame until she cliped a curb fell and now has 2 screws in her arm, and i was so looking forward to a sex life in 2012!!!!!!!!
  19. Hi, Have just recieved my new toy a RDO in Tang. First ride and this bike is fast no need for the propedal once set up. Put the propedal on and it becomes a HT!!!! Fox front and back, Full XT Hope evo II on Arch rims 12KG,s
  20. If i remember correctly the teeter-totter was put up by some riders not clubs or shops, and the guy that fell off had done it quite a few times, but i stand corrected. What i am asking is for the trail to be maintained, cutting the grass etc making the randburg section more than 5 inches wide. i can not see that being a problem? building dirt jumps etc then there will be problems from a liability point. I did not mention clubs as apart from JMBC who else does anything on the spruit??
  21. So i went for a ride down the spruit this morning, something i have not done for a long time. Started at the paulshof end through to the farm. Very busy lots of riders which is good to see. my problem is who is responsable for looking after the spruit?? Then i had a brain wave??? if all of the bike shops along the spruit, and there are many could take ownership of a section and look after it what a great place to ride and the shop would get great PR out of it???? but i suppose it is just a pipe dream, unless riders started putting some pressure on their shops to start putting back into the sport!!! So what do you think?? good, bad, or not interested Start naming the shops close to the spruit that we can target for help
  22. Best bike shop in Jhb Eben and crew know what customer service is all about, Only problem is that it is busy because of it!!!!!!! must be doing something right
