I have been searching the web to see whether or not my Polar 725S has the autostart fuctionality - can anybody out there help me?

As far as I know it doesn't have auto start stop. I have a S725X, and thats the one thing thats a bit annoying about it, otherwise a GREAT unit

Nope. I can't tell you how many training ride recordings got messed up because I forgot to start/stop it at some point.

Silly idea not having autostart/stop.

Great unit otherwise and Polar have the best software!

Well it does autostart if you're in exercise mode i.e. you've pushed the red button once. But if it won't do it from the normal display mode.

What REALLY annoys me about the watch is that it doesn't auto-reset the trip counter. I often forget to reset it before a ride and then only realise a few k's down the road

I have the S710 which does has an auto stop/start, so I am sure the 725 should have it. Never used it though.

Link the watch to the Polar software and search under the settings you see just before you download your data.

Will check tonite.

Hi Pauloc - how do you set that up. I havent been able to find anything to activate the auto start on either the watch / the software or the manual.

You will have a friend for life if you can tell me how you do that. I agree it is weird that Polar would leave that functionality off a "cycling specific" hrm.

I don't remember doing any specific specific setup to get this work. Basically the way my unit works is that I press the big red button once and it goes into a 'ready' mode for exercise where it starts reporting back on HR. From there I can either press the button again to start the exercise properly / I just start cycling and it will auto-start.

I run the Polar Precison Software Ver 4.030

Steps:

- Open Polar Software

- Connect the watch to the Software by clicking ther little watch on the main toolbar at the top of the screen. The software starts to read the settings on the watch. Once completed, it shows a submenu in the middle of the4 screen

- Click the "bikes" tab at the top of the submenu.

- In the bike 1 and/or bike 2 tabs select the "automatic recording start control" by selecting the little box

- Do the transfer of the new setting to the watch

- and close the submenu!!

Voila!!

Guys, thanks for all the input - unfortunately it looks like Randy and Eldron are correct here.

Checked out Underachiever's suggestion but the 725s does not have the auto start selection option in the bike menu.

It looks like Polar went backwards with this model unfortunately.

Bummer.

Have you tried getting hold of Polar directly? They're pretty good at responding to emails and there might be some work-around to get this going. You can mail them on helpdesk@polar.fi.
