Whats up with the big difference in prices?

Was riding down Rivonia today and stopped at Caltex or whatever. They charge R8.30 a litre. Told the guy they are crazy and went accross the road to shell. They have normal diesel at R7.87 and diesel super or whatever at R8.22

That's R30 difference between the two. What the hell?

(I used to buy the better quality diesel because there were only 5c difference.)

Diesel is not regulated, so they can charge whatever they like app!

I'm no mechanic but according to popular opinion buying better quality diesel is beneficial to your engine and will give you many more kms in the long run.

Better quality being 50 parts per liter Sulphur (50ppl). I go for this whenever available, problem is that not all petrol stations stock this.

I only put in 50ppl. All Sasol's have and most Total's. Its worth it tho otherwise your car lands up smoking like a truck

Tell me about it. In Sandton they sell the Diesel's for about R2000. Whilst on honeymoon in Phuket I saw a similar Diesel product for the equivalent of R200. Crazy sh*t.

The new diesel car coming into SA actually specify that if you do not fill with the low sulpur diesel you will lose the warrenty. Our diesel in SA is generaly crap quality. That is why we have more frequent service intervals of diesel engines because of the poor quality and high sulphur content.

Frikin Sasol on Witkoppen is more than R3.30 per litre!

Side note: Once or twice a month I add a % of 2 stroke oil or an additive like redex or Liqui Moly equivalent to a full tank, both the diesel or petrol cars.

It goes a long way towards engine lubrication and keeping the injectors clean and/or from being damaged.
