Microdotting bikes

With the crime rate the way it is and the number of bikes being stolen, I'd like to find out from you bike owners - as part of some research I'm doing into the topic - if you think microdotting your bikes and even wheels is an option/solution and if you would be interested in using this technology. You can do it yourself by buying the spraycan, registering your dot and marking valuables.

Has anyone ever got their bike back after a theft?? What stats do you have? It's no use we all do the dotting thing and the stolen bikes glows like fireflies somewhere in neighboring countries.

Interesting, how much do they weigh? I mean putting 1000 dots on my bike might weigh it down..... just kidding!

 

How often do guys strip and repaint the bikes? And Ingonis has a point, have any bikes with the micro dot been recovered?

I have to agree with Scotty here...the precautions (i.e micro dots / tracker etc. etc.) is ONLY as effective as the retrieval system....unfortunately we in SA are far too lacking in that Dept.

 

I bet you SAPS have not even heard of micro dotting??

 

Do they stop suspicious bikes and scan them? Do they do it alonfside of road or take bike + rider to police station..fill in docs and scan then??

 

So, all in all it's currently a waste of resources!!

I don't have an alternative for this predicament...
