Which Fox forks compare to a RS Reba and a RS Sid.

I asked a LBS what Fox compared to a Reba and the answer was: The guy kind of sniggered and said that all Fox forks are in a higher class than Reba. Almost seemed like they were wearing Fox goggles.

Any objective answers to this?

I think the bike shop guy was wearing goggles covered in stupid-splatter. It's a common problem.

What's better? BMW or Mercedes-Benz?

Martin, thats the idea I got.

I know every guy has his brand but you can still compare a 3 series with a A4 and c-class...

Yep, because the first guy thinks the firmer ride of the A4 means it's better than the 3-series, the second guy thinks that A4 lacks steering feel, and the third guy reckons both the previous models aren't refined enough and too sporty for comfort.

Both are good forks. Personally, I like the dual air chambers on RS forks, because it gives you the ability to fine-tune initial sensitivity down to perfection. Fox forks have a spring in place of that. Then on the other hand, apparently Fox forks are slightly more reliable (opinion, possibly) and mostly lighter in general. What's a definite though is that RS offers better value. Take your pick!

Well it is not that difficult a question. RS Reba/SID are XC forks. So is the Fox F32 series.

The Reba Team is the one you want. If you race a lot and a weight conscious type then go for the SID Team.

I know that the Reba/SID WorldCup versions are lighter due to carbon arch and steerer, but unfortunately this makes them more flexy than the Teams.

I own both a Fox F32 fork and a RS Reba Team. There is not much difference to be honest.

What makes the Reba a good choice is the tune-ability and it requires less frequent servicing than the Foxes.

On the other hand the Foxes are a bit lighter. The Foxes are also more expensive, so not as good value for money as Rock Shox.

It really just comes down to personal choice. But one thing is certain, gone are the days where you can say that Foxes are in a different class to Rock Shox.

Bike shop guy = chop!

They are both competing at the highest level, last I looked both were on the podium in equal measures.... Fox generally stiffer, RS generally more tunable. Maybe 4-5 years back the story would have been different, but now guys are catching up to Fox (who realistically, were market leaders for a while) if not have caught up....

I also have both and agree with your statements above. I suggest you print above comment and take it to your bike shop so that the sod that tried to sell you a fox can have a good look at it.

You get fanboys for both camps, I have ridden both F32 and Sid on my zula...prefer the Sid. Maybe his comm was bigger on the Fox

I also think your bike shop oke was looking at you through Fox-tinted spectacles.

Wheneveer someone makes a statement like that, you should respond with a "why?"

"The Fox is stiffer than the Rox," he says. Why you ask? They both use 32mm stanchions made from identical cross-section aluminium that weight the same. How can one be stiffer than the other, they are after all both just plain tubes?

"The Fox requires less maintenance than the Rox," he retorts. Why, you ask? They both use the same seal and bushing system. Both have teflon-coated seals and both use foam rings and both use seals that appear to be very identical. How can there be a difference?

"The Fox is more tunable than the Rox," he mumbles. Why, you ask? Both have rebound and compression damping, both have lockout levers and model for model, they match feature for feature.

"The Fox comes in white," he feebly stutters. Whoopee, you say. I like black.

I'll say Fox is better because you get Fox merchandise and you do not get Rock Shox merchandise. What is cooler then standing at a race with Fox cap on your head that you bought at the street corner. :D

You have a point there. I notice that Fox is the new Billabong.

Therefore, if you are a brand bunny, Fox is waaay better.

Thanks guys for some decent answers - its as I thought.

Very dissapointing that a noob like me can't get an honest opinion from a guy at a shop. What happened before The Hub?
