Since I have been, and will still be, bound to the trainer for awhile, I have been watching lots of TdF, Giro and Vuelta action (recorded).

One thing I notice is the substantial weight of the officials involved in cycling. It might also be an optic illusion due to the skinny cyclist standing next to them.

I work in the corporate environment and these guys (the officials) reminds me of your typical exec. Could it be that they have more in common - pursuit for money/status? Note: this statement should be qualified - sitting on a trainer has been known to affect a person´s perception.

Is this a general trend in road cycling? In comparison, mtb events are frequent by very fit looking officials and old industry hands (Bontrager, Fisher, Tomac, etc.)

Your observations?

All old ex pros. They just continued eating even after they stopped riding......

And we all know how THAT turns out..... Even I picked up 5kg the past 2 weeks after some much needed rest!!

Having had a little bit of experience with cycling admin, I reckon it's because the job is so time-consuming that they don't actually have time to train.
