Hello all...

If a serious (seerriiiaaaassss) hole in the tyre means that the sealant ain't working' date=' then you have to put in a tube, and (once finished cursing at all the mess) - you use the normal pump...

[/quote']

if the hole is too big to be plugged with one of those "crochet" kits, then you'll have to use a tube. you should also carry a pack of park tool tyre boots to fix really big tears.

Btw - MUST you use the normal pump with a tube - i.e. is using a cartridge more likely to result in a blown tube?

no' date=' and you can't go wrong with an inflator that has a flow control

But other than that - what would need to happen to a tubeless tyre that would require a cartridge - is it only in those cases where the tyre "burps", i.e. it shifts mometarily off the rim, allowing air to escape?

cartridge would help seat the tyre again

Guess I'm lucky' date=' but have not had to use a cartridge yet.

Don't even know how to use it properly - guess I'll try and figure it out on the day, if I ever need to...

[/quote']

which one have you got?

But I still carry a spare tube' date=' normal pump (even a patch kit) AND the cartridge and applicator - since, based on what I've outlined above - depending on the type of 'puncture', I might need either of the two, but each cannot do what the other can - and thus I need to carry both with me?

[/quote']

carrying both is always the safest. you have more punctures than you have bombs with you.

 Am I making sense?

am i?LOL

LOLClap Thanks for the effort Holy Roller - yes, you made complete sense...

All explained!

I have a Barbieri Moskito(?) - and the really bad Italian-Eeenglizh instructions lead me to believe that there is, indeed, a flow control - situated on its 'head'... So I'm assuming I simply attach the device (after having made sure my valve is open Wink), and then slowly turn open the 'flow control' valve?

Oh shucks - that actually appears to be another question!....Embarrassed

Oh - and also thanks to you, Mud Dee...

rodti, far as i can recall, with the mokito you'll puncture the cartridge by screwing the "handle" bit, then get the gas flowing by twisting/loosening the knob away from the handle.

Thanks Holy - that's pretty much what I figure it to be as well.

One last thing, and again - profuse apologies for going on with this, but would prefer not to be stuck anywhere for longer than is necessary - does it matter at all how slowly you 'allow' the gas in to the tyre? In other words, does it effect the "seating" of the tyre back on the rim, if I use the flow control to 'slowly' let the gas in?

Can the flow control actually do that - or does it pretty much blast in regardless?

I only use bombs on my rdb.I run on max pressure.Very few puctures so reasonably economical.

On the mtb I am on full tubeless so very few flats.

When a bit low on the juice or having lost a bit of pressure through a bad thorn and plugging exercise I use a pump which works a treat.

Best thing for those side wall gashes is that R20 note taxi money.R50 note works even better.Wink

i've got one of those trigger ones, which are easier to control the flow, but with yours, i'd give it a quick sharp turn to get the flow going, then turn it going back sharpish and control the flow till the wheel's at a happy pressure

True what Holly Roller said. You puncture the bomb and then pin seals the bomb again so turn it back a bit. Not sure if its been mentioned (6 pages of posts to read is a lot this time of night) but use your shirt or something to hold the bomb at deflation cause cold hands like those would only be good if you are holding a beer.
