After riding with the Momsen Design seat post for about a month it has snapped.

I went to climb Wendell's revenge at Rietvlei the day before I left for The Sabie Experience just to check my bike out, about 3/4 of the way up the climb I felt my saddle give way and the bottom part of the post cutting into the back of my leg, so I picked the saddle up and limped down to my car.

The saddle was correctly inserted way past the minimum insert mark and I only weigh 72kg , if anyone has seen one of these seat post before they will know that it is an aluminium cnc machined post, and it snapped off just where it is machined from thick to thin.

I'm lucky that I never took this post to Sabie , because if it broke on one of those hills I would have got much more than a cut on my leg.

I handed the seat post back to the store last wednesday and I'm waiting for Momsen Design in P.E to get back to me!

I'll let you know what transpires, but if you have one of these be careful!

Whoops....

Here's hoping Momsen sort this out quickly!

Here's hoping further that you simply drew the unlucky straw with regards to one particular seatpost - that was badly machined...

I am still going to look at Momsen for all the other componentry, but since I'm no lightweight - I would only ever look at Thomson posts in any event...

I would always try and support the local boys - so let's hope this doesn't do anything serious to their budding reputation, and that they are rapid in their response!

Keep us posted!

Here is to hoping that you tried to sort it out with Momsen before going out in public. Maybe it was just a flawed component... In any case, glad you are OK and did not get (too) injured.

+1, especially given the title.

Having dealt with the guy before, can only say that if Momsen Designs were contacted it would be sorted out chop chop.

Ridden with his products extensively and have never had an issue, as well as many other using the products without issue.

Best is to let Victor sort it out for you and take the product back to the manufacturer.

Mr G,

Sorry to hear about this incident. To date we have not had a single post failure like this. I assume you have the LB Post which is the laid back design?

The heat treating control and machining has been done a particular way to ensure the post "bends" before snapping. What you are describing is definately abnormal.

Pls confirm the dealer through which you purchased the seatpost and I will make contact immediately to resolve.

I can assure you our products are tested extensively prior to production and the particular item in question has some of the best cnc machining and quality control I have ever come across in the bicycle industry. From raw materials received to finished product - all processes are handled in 1 facility.

You can also contact us on 041-3685708 directly.

We will need to get seatpost back to send for material testing etc so we can ascertain what exactly caused this one-off failure.

Thanx R.B

The shop owner called them last wednesday and then we sent the seat post off to them, still no word but there was a public holiday in between.

So the hub post was to warn people to be careful if they are riding with the same seat post and as I said I'll update everyone when I hear from Momsen.

Hi Momsen

I did have the LB post, it was purchased through Westdene Cycles ,and Farid did call someone there last wednesday while I was waiting and they told him to send it back to P.E for it to be checked out.

Why?

By the same token, for example, that I would contact you first and try to resolve an issue if say for arguments sake you sold me something and there was a failure of sorts/ not to description/non delivery and I start a thread DANGER - MACKIE! Maybe it is just the way I would've gone about things.

+1 for Momsen for replying.

Fair enough.

Wish all suppliers would respond that way to an issue.

Cool pics. Do you machine those seat posts from solid round bar? How do you bend the LB posts?
