Andy there is still a cyclosport license and it costs R75.00. I have just bought one and it is true that it does not allow you to race for national and provincial honours.

When you say you bought a cyclosport license - do you mean you registered and purchased csa membership for R75 on csams.cyclingsa.com?

Stretch that is correct. Read my post under rant the total cost including club membership was R125.00. Take note this is not a full racing license.

ok - thats fine - just checking as officially the cyclosport license has now been replaced by membership.

Stretch the website calls it a cyclosport license but it seems that you receive a membership card. Perhaps the website does not reflect the latest terminology - something for IT to sort out? :D

Maybe in another name! From the cyclingsa website regarding fees below. For funrides you need day license and for csa races you need racing license (and obviously for both csa membership).

1. CSA Membership R75.00

2. CSA Racing License R350.00

3. Day License R35.00

Andy I guess we are both right :D Although, I am not sure that you to have day license when you have membership see note below from cyclingsa website:-

All riders taking part in CSA sanctioned events are required to be a Member of CSA for the year in which the race takes place, or to have a valid day license for every day of participation. Membership or a day license is a race entry requirement and is thus a prerequisite to enter a race.

What I have been saying all along! From the CSA License thread:

I entered for the Argus and was forced to pay the R75 CSA license.

CSA is not just going to give the memberships away for free

From a document CSA sent out a couple of months ago:

"Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour

CSA requires all riders riding in sanctioned events to be licensed and the Cycle Tour are sanctioned license sellers (not freebies) for CSA.

When entering the Cycle Tour there are various membership and licensing options available to you.

From a CSA perspective you need to have one of the following to complete your entry.

1. A membership of CSA for 2011

2. A day license

Should you choose a membership of CSA this will be valid for the whole of 2011 and allow you to do any

other race. Should you chose a day license, this is only valid for the cycle tour."

Seems like there was a choice between day license and membership but nowhere they say that is was include for mahala with your entry

Sorry I'm new to this. If I did races which are listed as seeding races for the Argus do I need a PPA membership for those races to influence my start time?

No you dont need to be a PPA member to do seeding races for the Argus.

Seeding races are just that seeding races. But if you are not a PPA member or you have not done any races, you will not have a seeding for the seeding race and you will start at the back. (hope that made sense?)

You can get seeded in the Argus without being a PPA member (like all the gautengers) but if you are in the Western Cape and want to do any race here, it is probably best to join PPA.

I really cant tell you why I am a PPA member other than I have no choice, they run the seeding system in WC. Without a PPA seeding you start at the back and you can not enter the league.

Tankman, it would seem that those that chose option 1 i.e membership only need to go to the CSA website and activate that membership. There is a direct link on the site that allows you to do this.

Thanks Tankman, can't be any more clear than that.

Thanks Tank. I think the thing is that when you join PPA you automatically get the CSA membership. Entering the Argus doesn't matter - you still need the day license. I will try to confirm. That is one reason funrides are cheaper for PPA members.

From PPA's website:

Membership of the PPA brings many benefits, including discounted funride entry fees, a seeded funride number to use at events on the PPA calendar, and event results on the PPA website.

Note that cyclists who are not a member of an Association like PPA or a cycling club affiliated to Cycling South Africa, need to take out an additional R30 CSA day license for all road events over 40km and all MTB events over 20km

There is still a way around this for someone that does say only do the Argus, the Burger and perhaps one other race and is really not worried about seeding.

Join ROAG - Online Club that is affiliated to CSA - R50

Then apply for CSA yearly membership directly on their website - R75

ROAG will confirm your a club member and bob is your uncle.

No PPA needed.

Oh and you are correct, CSA membership is included in your annual PPA membership.
