So I have been thinking about this and would like to hear ur thoughts

50mm and 60mm full carbon clinchers to start

Works like this:

• You pay full price of R8999 for wheels

• You take your own insurance on them and use. Your own cassette, tyres, tubes

• Minimum hire is 2 weeks

• Apon return of wheels, clean and not damaged your balance of your money is returned to you

• Cost is R100 per day, minimum of 2 weeks

What do u think ? Will prob also have disk or 2 as well

I agree with Matty G. If I had that kind of money for a deposit (I wish) I would buy a set of wheels. Perhaps rather decrease the min 2 weeks and put a R1000 deposit requirement, own insurance (saves on having to have the expensive deposit cause then if anything happens, you will get a replacement tx to insurance), increase daily rate to R250 or R500. That way you will increase your customer base by making it friendly for people who just want it for races. Then, you could offer an additional charge for cleaning (R200?) for if they are not returned clean.

Just my 3c.

i understand the concept that you're looking at. basically race wheels cost a frikken bomb and are only used occasionaly. huge issues of trust involved, and basically just protecting yourself.

sound like a holiday house, or a yacht?

maybe the way to do this is to look at 'fractional ownership'. essentially i would buy (thumbsuck)3 weeks of fancy wheel time from you per year. book those weeks in advance to secure the right. get enough guys in the pool and it could work.

you're not the first to ask.

I just can't picture it happening... Who is going to pay R9k deposit + R1.5k rental to use a set of wheels for 2 weeks (probably 1 race?). That sort of rate might work for a complete high-end race bike around the time of the big races if you're lucky, but not for a set of wheels. You're talking about someone paying your retail price on the wheels in 90 days? When you travel, would you rent a middle of the range Merc for R6k a day with minimum period of 2 weeks (R72k!)? And there they give you insurance, tyres etc. You are carrying no risk at all, but looking at paying off your cost of the wheels in probably 45 (???) or less days? You should be looking at a reasonable annual return for rental equipment, not such a super short period (especially given the fact that they carry a residual value probably at least equal to your cost so every cent from rental is pure risk-free profit).

It's a very good idea, but will have to be very competitive rates as nobody really NEEDS a set of race wheels, they are just a luxury to make you feel better...

Then again, I could be completely mistaken and it could work out very succesfully!

Pornstar - it is quite commonplace for the guys inthe Uk to dod it - check out triuk.com or sigmasport.co.uk if I remember correctly. I think for your scheme to work, you need to : lower your deposit (and take out insurance yourself) and reduce the minimum rental period. Reason being for R1400 - Id rather save up a bit and buy my own wheels. Most guys will end up buying a cassette and tyres too, which will inflate the cost of "rental" even more... my 2c

U would get R 7600 refund after returning wheels

Ok, all valid points, I guess trying to help people is expensive and too much admin

Ha haa

Quite correct...

Like the concept however why just the wheels - I would gladly pay R1k to ride a pinnerelo round the 94.7 :) you take the rent and excess up front and have all the bikes insured up front you do not need people to lay out the whole amount upfront - just to excess, similar to car rental - except plush bike rental :) you do not pay R100K deposit when you hire a golf :)

use it do not use it :) the market is bigger for plush bike rental rather than wheel rental :)
