Just wanna see you back on an iron horse, man...

All the best with the pursuit of the Solis Magma!

Thanks. If it's not covered by the insurance policy, it will only be the small matter of finding R4500-00 for the new frame.

In the meantime the Mtb with slicks will have to suffice.

Yeah, keep those legs spinnin'.

See you on the road when I do, A O.

Just an observation, but that frame has quite alot of tubing sticking out above the top tube. I wonder if you'd have had a really long seatpost that extended deep enough into the seat tube if the frame would still have cracked.

Possible. Seatpost is 27.5cm long, "that" section of tubing is 7.5cm, length of seatpost in frame was 14cm, so yes, not too much under/in the seat tube proper.

Let's hope Outsurance's "Invisible Man" will sort you out quick-quick!

Yeah, where was this bugger when the problem started. Hope he's had a good Holiday and in not too bad a mood when he receives my claim.

Looks like you're gonna be asking for forgiveness, and not permission :)

You got that right. Pity that Solis is white, my current bike red. Don't think I'll be able to slip that one past her. :D

How old is that frame?

The frame cracked in what is called a stress concentration in engineering lingo. This specific failure is due to either poor welding or a poor design of the wall thickness and weld. Must add though that it is difficult to predict stress concentration failures of this type. Very difficult.

A really good welder may be able to fix it, but then you will probably pay more than what the frame is worth with the welding and painting required.

My only hope is to try and see if the frame manufacturer would be willing to warranty the frame as it is clearly due to a designed/manufactured in stress concentration.

you got one at vasity speak to anton best in western cape , break should know him

Just put the tape back on so you can't see the crack. I'm sure it'll be fine.

Only do this if your the type of bloke that will get a smile on your dile once the broken end of the tube penetrates your you know where ;)

Longer seatpost will not help as the clamp sits at the top and when it cracks all the way through the seat will sway.

Don't worry guys, no plans to use/repair the frame.

Praying and trusting in GOD that this matter will speedily be resolved to my satisfaction. (read frame being replaced by insurers.)
