Hi All

I have a carbon frame that I would like to "re-spray". I have done a DIY Alu frame before and it turned out quite nicely. I went the whole way with the Alu frame... Stripping it down to the bare metal and then priming and painting.

With a carbon frame I am weary of how I would or if I should even strip the current coat of paint before re-spraying?

Any and all advise on this little DIY project would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

So I've been thinking overnight.... What if I stripped the paint(still not sure how I would do that?) and then just put a clear coat over the existing carbon weave?

Anyone have any advise on weather that is possible or not advisable?

hi

only way to strip old coating off is to sand it by hand .using fine water paper wet pref with some dish washing soap / liquid to act as a lube

JB did an experiment a while back where you left some carbon rods in acetone for a few weeks and nothing happened to it. I think someone then mentioned that paint stripper will not affect the carbon either.

would not recomend that route... worked a lot with carbon fishing rods and its a no no ...acetone evapourates very quickly . paint stripper does not .....paint stripper is far more aggressive
