HI,

Besides the weight & pimp factor whats the big hype and difference between Carbon Riser bars and standard Aluminum ones ? Is there an actual performance difference ? Help a newbie out here.

Not sure about performance but I have heard that carbon can help with absorbing ride chatter/buzz to some extent.

That is the biggest bit of marketing hoopla to have made it into the "received wisdom".

Changing tyre pressure will have more impact on chatter/buzz than changing frame material could ever have.

I agree. I switched from alloy bars to an Easton MonkeyLite SL, and I honestly can't pick up any difference in vibration transfer. What I can pick up (not while it's on the bike though) is that it's ridiculously light. When Bos handed me this 135g stick when I bought it from him, I thought it was going to float away. Seriously, I had to hold it down, it's that light. To be honest I was a bit worried at first, but seeing as it's supposed to have the best strength/weight ratio of any MTB bar in existence, I've kept it on. No problems (touch wood) after almost a year.
