Speak to your LBS, if they are providing anyone. I used Fritz Pienaar, but Morningside, Cyclelab etc was also there.

Keep in mind that they now wash your bike for you, and there are multiple service shops around - although I still used one last year, sothat I could focus on nutrition and not maintenance

My LBS would love to but I guess 9107.2 km from Planet Zug to Cape Town is a problem

Thks for the other info, first epic so not sure how everything works and want to make sure all the "extra energy draining" activities are sorted out.

SV looks like no one can help, maybe you should look at donating that Epic entry to a needy team, like maybe Trackie and myself........

Geco Cycles have been servicing bikes at the Epic for the past the 4 years. Our service have always been of the highest standard and 2011 will be no exception. We have also build and prepared Epic bikes and would like riders to make use of expertise when choosing their race bike.

Pre Epic service

Our pre-epic service entails a complete strip-down and rebuild of the bike. Should you buy all your parts for Geco Cycles (chain, cluster, chain rings etc), the pre-Epic service will be free of charge. The service is extremely important for the service team to ensure that the rider starts the race with bike that will need minimal attention during the tough week ahead. It is advisable to replace drive train, brake pads and bearings at this service, and to check and replace tyre sealing fluid. It also provides our service crew with the opportunity to take note of the parts required to service your particular bike.

Service during the Epic

Our service crew is available the day before start for any emergencies that might occur, our workshop is closed for this day to deal with Epic bikes only. We also have a bike mechanic hanging around the start just in case of an emergency. Contact during the Epic is by cell phone. Each rider receives a dedicate Epic cell number to ensure that riders and service crew stay in contact. Bikes are dropped at the service zone or collected, and returned by our crew after servicing. Our service includes a "service wash and lube", and tyre sealant check and replacement. Should the crew experience a serious problem, the rider will be contacted in order to determine the correct course of action. At the Epic we stock extra frames, forks and wheel sets, and riders do not have to carry any spares or specific parts.

Epic Cost

Our fee for 2011 Epic is R1,950 per rider. All parts required during the race will be less 10% for our registered service riders. Riders will be billed after the race and should they pay with an EFT within a week after the race finish, another 3% can be deducted. We only have space for 18 teams, so it would be in the riders best interest to register and pay as soon as possible to secure a service spot.

We didn't use a bike service shop and we were ok. There are a few guys there who look for business. We were amazed at how many repair shops were available. they travelled with the Epic so no worries. Check the Epic website I saw a few guys advertising there.
