It's more about the fact that the cyclist swore at the guy's wife when confronted as to why he wasn't wearing a helmet.

Let the guy fall and die - less idiots in the gene pool.

...no confronting surely means that there would have been no swearing! So if you're not an officer of the law (joke) then don't get involved. Let the guy ride how he sees fit and carry the consequences of his choices. There are too many self appointed moral police on the beat in SA.

My guess is you wouldn't like it, and you wouldn't like it and you'd dismiss the biker.

Now, the lidless cyclist did exactly that. My guess, to complete my Psychic Dr Phil routine, is that what really p!ssed you off is that the cyclist was somewhat uncouth in his reaction to your wife, although I maintain his reaction (if not the uncouthness) was perfectly normal.

I think that I would at least think about what the biker said, no ones likes it when we are told we are doing something wrong, however, I certainly wouldn't behave the same way this chop did. I am a fairly highly strung and aggressive persong yet I still do not go around swearing at everyone who may happen to say something to me, be it right or wrong.

This is going to go on and on with different opinions so let me just say that i have learnt from this and i hope charlie brown with no helmet decides that perhaps he should wear one. i also hope that he does read this thread and realises that his vulgar language was not necessary.

SO, the obvious question no-one has asked yet is this...was he riding a road or MTB?

From the evidence I would say road.

1. Most dikwiele will struggle to keep up with traffic unless it is down a mine shaft.

2. He was rude, and by all accounts from the other dikwiel users here, roadies are rude.

This is just a guess, I think the OP is also a dikwiel rider, hence his initial offense at the rider not having a helmet.

I forgot my helmet at home the other day, and then wondered why I was enjoying my ride so much - wind in the hair, no weight, a brilliant feeling like I had as a kid. As far as I'm concerned, I'll go when my time has come, and if it's from a cracked skull then at least 1) I was having fun, and 2) I don't fade away unhappily in an old age home.

You are in the same boat as another lady from CT a while back who came on the Hub and mentioned she was verablly abused by some cyclists when she pointed out that they should ride with lights to make them more visable. From what i recall a lot of comments also mentioned she deserved it as it was not her place to point this out.

The guy obviously knew he was in the wrong, otherwise he wouldn't have acted like an immature imbecile. How hard is it to comport oneself with a bit of dignity?

I recall another incident around Hartebesport Dam. An elderly guy and his wife were nearly taken out by a group of motorcyclist, when he confronted them they proceeded to beat him up. Some hub comments...he deserved it as it was not his place to tell them how to ride
