Hi all

I have a friend, who rides a hard tail. He dose the occasional race, but also rides his his VERY hard, hitting some jumps and huge drop offs (free ride style)

He had a Tora fork (the model without the air) which he has subsequently broken.

Can anyone recommend him a fork (new/second hand) that is relatively cheap, but strong enough to take the kind of abuse that he dishes out?

seeing as though he's running it on a hard tail, he'll probably want 80-120mm of travel. The best bet for a strong fork in that range is a dirt jump fork.

The Marzo's are decently priced. Speak to Johan Bornman(sp?) for local Marzo prices...

But here's just a few I spotted on CRC (all prices excl. VAT and Shipping)

Marzo Dirt Jumper 3 - R1350

Marzo Dirt Jumper 2 - R2235

Society Xeno DJ - R1610

Dirt jump forks won't be the lightest option... and some may require him to run a 20mm thru-axle up front. But they're probably the best short travel forks if you're looking for strength.

He can also try the fox and rock shox (argyle) dirt jump forks, but these will be more pricey.

Totem is 180mm travel... a little too big for a hard tail. Plus altering the head angle that much will put extra stress on the frame making the head tube more likely to rip off. Also, Totems are in no ways 'cheap' (cheapest new one will cost around R6300... one can get an entry level boxxer for around that, and they're high maintenance. They are brilliant freeride forks though.

Rock Shox Pike however is a good option (although again, the 454 is 140-150mm travel so watch out for head tube strain. Maybe look for one with less travel). Very popular dirt jump fork (well... I see it a lot in the dirt jump vids, hahaha). Unfortunately they don't make them anymore, but if he can find a 2nd hand one in good condition, that may be a plan.

Go rigid mate, you don't have the problem with head tube strain due to too much travel and they're strong as hell!!!!!! I run a DMR 20mm, its nice and stiff so feels amazing on both DJ and street riding and goodluck with breaking it!!! And it doesn't cost a fortune!!!
