Hi Guys,

So i've been using Kenda tubes(the ones with the slime already in them)on my MTB, was wondering whether it would be better to buy "plain" tubes and put Sludge or another anti puncture slime in afterwards as i'm not sure how effective the anti puncture in those tubes are? I had quite a few punctures over the weekend, but before that had relatively few while using the same tubes, i also use liners (When you weigh over 100 you dont care abouth the 100g)

Any help will be appreciated.

Do what is right. Go tubeless!

I'll have to go tubeless when i go full sus, i dont want to spend any more on the Hardtail and i don't have the cash at the moment, so slime and liners it will be.

I recommend plain tubes with Sludge Uniseal. If you use Presta valves, get the one with the removal core such as Continental, as Sludge Uniseal can not be injected through the value. If you've got Schrader valves, you're ok, as the cores are all removable. If you can, get a cheap tubeless conversion, as tubeless will always be better. CycleLab sells a Rubena tubeless kit for about R250, and Sludge Uniseal will set you back about R55. So for a small budget of about R300, you can roll on tubeless wheels, provided your tyres will be able to seat properly. I don't believe in Slime tubes, just heared too many people complian!

Slime™ and Sludge™ are the names of registered products and you pay for the name. Are you sure that Kenda tubes actually use Slime™ in their tubes? Just buy CST tubes pre-filled with sealant. Been riding them for 3 years without any problems. I had Joe's tubes that were filled with their mutie but they were terrible.

I use presta's on my bike, and I must say to slime them is hard work, and does not always work. After my fall I noticed that I have a flat back wheel now. Not sure if it is a result of the fall (not been near the bike from 29 Dec) or if it is just normal leakage, although, the front is still up to pressure

Replaced my normal Kenda tubes two days ago that I manually filled with sludge and had no problems with punctures until all the slime went out after many thorn over 3 months was pulled out!Bought the Giant inner tube(Giant box with Kenda tube inside) with slime in and after one ride I had two flats. The sealant in those didn't wotk so I will not recommend it at all.

Wait till u pinch the tubes from heavy rocky sections,etc...its a crap feeling, I had to walk 3 km's once due to a pinched tube....with no spare...the next day it was tubeless

You can go tubeless with normal rims and normal tyres.
