The bikes that got us hooked

Morning all,

Seems to me alot of the people on here have some pretty serious bikes and there are a bunch of threads with photos of them....how about some pics of your first bikes and the machines that got you hooked.

I'll start with mine...the old GT Avalanche 1.0.

I learnt to ride on one of these:

It's a thing called a Velamos. The top tube could be bolted and unbolted. Very useful for learning to ride to avoid mashing one's pre-pubescent nuts to smithereens. I got a bike like this when I was 5. When I was 9 my dad upgraded it to a proto-MTB by adding a Chopper rear wheel with Sturmey Archer 3 speed and a pair of only slightly bent MX bars. I learnt to wheelie on that bike.

Oh, and it weighed only slightly more than Mars!

First "real"road bike was a Schwinn Paramount back in the early 90's. Loved that little red rocket. Used to ride my A@&$S off to school against the SE. Would have ben so strong now, had I not discovered, Woman, Alcohol and Cigarettes

Oh well, second wind and we try all over again to get as strong as i was some 20 years ago.

That makes my heart ache to read!

Rather restore it and use it as a rat bike/commuter/grocery fetching machine.

Every time somebody let's a bike die, god kills a kitten somewhere!
