I am looking to get a new MTB for home as I intend to bring my current one with me to the DRC after my next R&R rotation.

The equipment selection process was fairly easy until I got to the forks.

As my road bike has a Kinesis frame and i have enjoyed it I thought to go for the Kiness Maxlight KM810 frame.

The brakes I fancy are Avid Code which are IS mount, and I prefer the 9mm Quick release on my wheels.

a Bonus for the forks would be white finish but that I can sort out with a bit of spray paint if needed.

So a 26" fork with 100mm or 120mm travel IS Mount pref dual air, for 9mm Quick release, with lockout .

Which one?

Been looking there all day, why are all the decent forks post mount, all the decent brakes IS mount and the adapters are for IS forks to Post mount calipers !

So the guys who sell forks can sell forks, the guys who sell brakes can sell brakes and the guys who sell adaptors can sell adaptors.

A tip..... The disk manufacturer adaptors of post to IS and other way around will fit on Hope, Formula and any other type, you are not type dependant. Go and look for the correct one at your or a LBS. Small premium to pay but you will get the correct one. Had to do that on my new Matzocchi fork with the Hope disks.

Disk brake calipers should be standard in how they look and mount - no? They all mount the same way....this being said then, it doesn't matter if the fork is post mount as the caliper then mounts directly to the fork leg without a IS adapter. You may need a couple spacers to make it work, but if it is an XC fork (as you have mentioned you are looking for) and you are using a 160mm rotor it should just bolt straight on.

I would suggest you steer clear of the Codes, rather use Elixirs or Juicy range as they offer better braking power and far better feel. If you own the Codes then se le vie.

Forks, can only win with Reba's, Fox F series. parts are easy to get and they are a doddle to service. Hope all this helps.

Thanks , it does. will get the Reba, but with a 180mm disc.

If you want to use a post fork with IS calipers you will need an adapter that requires you to increase you disc size by 20mm. you you will have to use a 180mm front. There is no other way around it. A2Z and Magura makes adapters.
