but my tire was cut halfway so the tube will pop out....

Happened to someone I know riding at Harkerville. He managed to fix it by using a R20 note I gave him to stop the tube coming out. (I didn't have any R10's). We were less than half way at that stage and he managed to complete the ride like that. Neat little trick I would never have thought of.

I always carry a piece of tyre liner in my bags - on ALL my bikes. Brilliant patch material - and, you don't have to worry about getting your R20 note back

Beats bitchin' and moanin' about not getting greeted

Thats true. MTBers are a sensitive bunch, always crying about not being greeted and how nasty those roadies are.

I had my cluster come apart after the freehub split ? how does a freehub break  overzealous bike mechanic or maybe factory fault. Either way it sucks having to push

Klein meisies?

So this morning I took my new roadbike out for the first time.

Got up just after 4 really excited about this new experience. So used to my mtb that it felt like learning to ride all over again.

Plan was to go for a 2 odd hour ride, cross over Malanshoogte and back and up Vissershok.

Wind was a little distracting, but who cares I am flying with little resistance. Up Adderley and down to Fair Cape dairy farm. Turned around and headed back up the hill.

Then as I was just about to reach the top disaster. The chain broke. Snapped clean of. It was 6 in the morning. The wife at gym. I had an hour before I would get any help from her. So I walked to the top and freewheeled down to the bottom of Vissershok.

With the wind full in my face and the sun only starting to come out I started to walk up Vissershok. I waved at people coming past, but no one even slowed down. So I walked to the top of Vissers, freewheeled down the other side, and as I was about to get of my bike a mountain biker came up behind me and gave me a push for about an kilometer until he had to turn.

Walked another 3km and the wife came to pick me up.

So how was my first experience as a "roadie" - Awesome. I guess we all get into situations we do not wish for, but it is the attitude we go forward with that makes it worthwhile.

I usualy push as hard as I can on the bike and today I was forced to take it slow and enjoy. Thanks to the guys who passed me, and a big thumbs up to the only other fellow cyclist who helped me.

Man I love this sport.

i like the positive attitude

no use getting stressed over things we cant control!

this is a great advert for MTB though, the mountains make you guys so strong our 'Roadie' chains cant handle the pressure

And I like your attitude towards work. Wish I could go to work like that.
