The negative 29er feedback seems to have one thing in common ... it comes from people who have never ridden one! Go figure!

And the rave reviews from okes that just dropped 30-40k on a 29'er...of course they are going to love and rave about it. Imagine going to your friends...other hubbers and probably the worst...the SWAMBO and admit you just made a 30-40k mistake, my wife will kill me ;)

I spent R20k , less than on my 26er and I still love my 29er more-so next theory pleaselaugh.gif

All bikes have their place, only now a 29er's place is first and 26er's is now second or thirdclap.gif

mmmmm love the niner's looks...without a doubt the best looking bikes on the market right now...especially the air carbon...bliksem.

If I can convince the wife that I need bigger wheels a niner and maybe the chumba 29'ers would be top of my list.

I have a quick question, I currently ride a FS 26 Yeti, and looking to go to the darkside.

I am 1.81m, weigh 72kg's and do lots of stage racing Sani2C, Mankele, Wine2Whales, Swazi etc.

Anyone in this boat that can let me know what your experience is after moving to a 29er? Any advice/tips?

Cheers

I have tested a 29er hardtail, its nothing like a dual 26er, its still hard. I'm also not convinced yet that its faster or what ever it is that people change to 29ers. If I have to choose between a 26hard and 29 hardtail then I would choose the 29er, but for now I'm still with my 26 dual.

For stage racing I'd stay with the 26 FS, and for single day marathon (and further) racing I'd go for the 29er hard tail.

All depends on what you want to achieve. If you want to go faster and are happy to hurt more for faster times I would recommend a 29er hardtail over a 26er DS.

If you want more comfort and are happy to sacrifice some speed for comfort I'd recommend a 29er DS.

In order of speed in marathons I'd say fastest to slowest:

29er HT

26er HT

26er DS

29er DS

Comfort:

29er DS most confy

26er DS

29er HT

26er HT least comfy

Actually not true. My 29er is R14,5k (with some KCNC bits and another saddle added). I will get new wheels, but my rave came while riding the stock standard XTC29. My 26" Anthem is the 40k one with XTR all round and RS SID wc. Come to think of it..your are right, not a fair comparison ;)

Picked up new wheels from the man on Monday...and apparently you are not sharing a serious piece of bike porn with us sir, shame on you  We want picks when its done btw.

Saw his 29'er, very nice, great finishes and geo works for me. I might just be tempted into this "foefie" with one of his imports ;)

A fine base for a bike - I took the frame and fork and upgraded to full XT running gear, XTR brakes, American classic wheels, rithcey wcs alu finishing kit and the bike is a 10.8kg mile eating monster.

Enjoy enjoy enjoy!

Pics will come when it's done. Wheels are currently being built.

Nice! I saw your tread on your new baby. Just got my American Classics as well. I have opted for KCNC stem, handlebar and seatpost as it is light, "cheap" and goes nicely with the black and silver 2011 frame and fork graphics. Will keep the SLX crank, but will upgrade the brakes at some point. Will post a pic here or on your tread as soon as I figure out how to download a pic from my phonecam (with your permission offcourse , I dont want you to get green and all :whistling: )
