Yes where do you get that XTC? The lefty costs a lot more to maintain, but is the shizz. How much for each of the bikes? New?

I rode both...

The Flash is a lot lighter, more compliant, and a lot more on the price...

I bought the flash...

Nothing wrong X9, you aint earning your living from riding, the lefty is awesome...

Replacing XTR components won't cost much less (if any) than keeping the lefty in good nick. Not a fan of the Cannondale's components spec either.

Try and ride both, then decide.

Are they the same age and price etc?

What about size?

Be sure you get fitted properly.

They both seem like custom builds.

Carbon frame with medium level spec vs alu frame with high end spec.

Left vs Fox fork (Do some research on the lefty fork - some mixed reviews out there.)

What wheels are on each bike?

A few things to consider over and above brand.

edit:

Sorry, I assumed you were talking about the 29 carbon flash (I dont know why).

The Giant is an XT/SLX build for about R16k - pretty good value and plenty of scope to upgrade.

The Geometry is quite different on each, so factor that into your decision. Perhaps get measured and sized up properly.

no, both aluminium, the lefty is not carbon and weighs 10.77

the giant whit XTC sorry is 11.2kg

price 5000 difference between them.....

the bikes are brand new and are not build ups, its how they come...

the cannondale has a x9 rear derailer the rest x7.....the giant is a full shimano groupset+brakes......

so which would it be and why? what your thoughts?

good enough for a decent epic?

where can i ride before i buy? or borrow a demo bike? ive tried a gary fisher trek one, was price +dual suspension....

:) thanks

If you are serious enough about mtb and riding the Epic (and able to afford an entry), my advice would be to rather bite the (price) bullet and buy a carbon mtb. If a new carbon bike is out of your price range, go for a 2nd hand bike.

I was a Giant fan (5 x MTB owned) until I switched to Cannondale (2 x MTB owned)and have never been happier. Nothing comes close to a Lefty in ride and performance - yes it is a bit more expensive to maintain but I suppose you pay for what you get. Been using X9 for a couple of years and much happier with it than with the XTs I used to run.

Unfortuantly all the above is based on twenty sixers and not niners but hopefully helps.

Remember - forks are for eating, leftys are for racing.

What's the price of each? And really... where are you getting this full XTR Giant XTC 29er? What wheelset will it have? I have the stock XTC 29er. Quite like it.

What's the specs of the Cannondale? Drivetrain wise...

as i said, ive corrected the full xtr thingy. to slx justa bit further down............ 5000 difference between the two....

Flash without a doubt - The Flash 29er 3 is a carbon frame as far as I know. The only ali 29er Cannondale makes is called a Trail 29er...

X-7 is more than adequate and cheap to maintain, you could gradually replace with X-O or XX if you wish to. Lefty is much like 29er - those whoe ride them know. All others are sceptical
