Carbon cranks

Im looking into getting a pair of carbon cranks. Are they worth the price? Do they improve performance allot? thanks

To both questions: Depends on what you buy. Campy record retails in the region of R5500, but you can get FSA for way less than that. Prolly work the same, weight the same (or FSA might be less...), etc but we could have long and meaningful debates about the price of style and good looks (or perceived good looks).

 

If you're using the old tapered bb design cranks, there will be a massive diff upgrading to carbon: weight, stiffness and resultant improvement in power transfer is huge. Someone who has replaced a newer design crankset (Shim DA?) with carbons would be in a better position to comment on the diff in such a case?

 

What are you upgrading from?

oh ok. i dont think there is much difference other than the huge weight advantage, aluminium cranks to not exactly warp while you pedal

I have old campy mirage so im sure ill get a huge difference if i do change!?

I wouldnt get hung up on carbon cranks..it'll be hard to notice any difference at all!.  rather go training a bit more and save your $$

Hey DK! You missed a kick-arse ride this morning. We coulda done with an extra "puller". New Burger route tougher than old ones if the wind is blowing! Today we had a North Westerley, and suffered. take that money and go see a bio and get a training program and tests done rather. they will be more beneficial.
