  1. As much as most of us enjoy single track,my personal opinion is that a lot of races are now including too much.It is all very well for the better riders but more than 50 pc of the field are just average to below average. I also wonder if organizers don't look for the most difficult route they can-again fine for the better riders. The race is to cater for all of us,even us that push up the rear.Don't get me wrong,it must not be easy but try and cater for those of us still trying to improve ie don't chase the newbies away. Just my 5 cents worth
  2. Cool will do.We have to do something before it gets out of hand.
  3. So true but one feels so darn helpless.Thank goodness her Ironman training days are over !
  4. This is totally unacceptable and unfortunately something which I predicted would happen.I cycle alone on that Schoenies road,as does my wife ! What is this beloved country of ours coming to when you cannot even go for a cycle ! I see 2 motorbike riders and 3 cyclists were all knocked off by a group of a*rseholes going up a hill near Pretoria over the week end. The time has come for me to buy a weapon.
  5. I live in PE and normally do a 75-80km ride from Summerstrand through Schoenies and then on to Seaview over a week end.You welcome to give me a shout sometime. I am no speedmerchant but enjoy the ride.
  6. A huge heads up to ENGEN and everyone else involved in the above race yesterday. It was an extremely tough race with the climbs neverending.Cycling through van Stadens pass is no easy feat. The prizes and lucky draws were simply amazing. If only we had more sponsors like ENGEN !
  7. If we are to do 150km's per day and expected to have cut off times of around 3hr 30mins for 100km's,this won't be for funriders ! The pro's and sub 3 1/2 hour Argus riders can do those distances, whilst the funriders do a lesser distance and with an easier cut off time. Depending on numbers, camping and/or B&B's would be best for the overnight stops.
  8. I would love to have a 3 day tour for so-called funriders. It can include the pro's of course but as I'm no pro,a nice easy tour would be great.I know my wife would also love to join in.
  9. Guys he made a simple mistake,he intended to ask R25-00.He added a couple of zero's by mistake..... lol
  10. Sounds great thanks.I hope you stock Specialised cycling tops in XXL.See you on Saturday.
  11. I am in.A very sad day for all cyclists. When will the authorities take action ! Maybe a few traffic officials should go to the UK,France and the like to see how those countries make the roads more safe for cyclists.
  12. The big thing about the ARGUS will be the number of cyclists around you.Do not do anything silly like looking behind you/crossing the path of another cyclist/dropping your bottle etc etc. Also, remember to pace yourself,it is a long ride with a number of pretty steep/long climbs.Keep hydrated by drinking enough. Just get out there and enjoy the experience.Gautengers generally are not used to wind,so beware if it is blowing on the day,it can cause its own problems.Try and ride in a bunch if you can-you can save up to 25pc of your energy by doing so. See you there and enjoy.
  13. Am very jealous.Just make sure you can keep up with him lol
  14. Just how long and tough is Boyes drive ?
  15. I used www.trikes.co.za ,you need to input the speed you expect to go at certain stages to achieve say a 4 hour ride.
  16. I have been advised that it is best to take one every hour. However,I usually only use one around the half way mark when doing 60 km's or so. On a 100 km ride I would take 2 or 3.I try and take them when I know a particularly tough section is just up front. I was advised by a physio a week or so back that a number of top cyclists use Rennies for cramps.I haven't had to use them yet but I have always had a problem with races around the 100km mark.I have tried everything possible but still cramp around the 75-85km mark.I will try Rennies in my next big race.
  17. I was previously a 4 hr man for the Argus but after two spinal fusions over the past 4 years, I am now trying to make a comeback ie for the past year. It has been a very hard/slow comeback and quite frankly my legs are just not what they used to be.I generally do a 75km ride over the week end with a 40 km ride during the week.I also try to get a spinning class in where I can. I completed the 85 km race in Uitenhage yesterday in just under 4 hours. It had some really tough climbs which I managed but very slowly. I have entered the ARGUS but clearly need to get my legs as strong as possible in the time left. Can anyone suggest a programme or where I can go to on the net etc ? I would like to include a bit of stretching and maybe very light weights - I cannot really lift much at all due to my back. Any suggestions would be most welcome.
  18. Race with the fastest avg speed: The Fast one-Joburg road race Toughest race (left you tired and sore): ADDO 60km mtb..Zuurberg climb should be excluded from this race Most fun: Knysna 50km mtb Never-miss-this-one: Knysna 50 km mtb Race you are gaurenteed to fall: St Francis mtb race (lots of seasand) Race with the highest top speed achieved: Knysna 100km road race Worst race (One you won't do again EVER!): Will have to think hard about the Addo race (especially if they can't correct the route from 70km to the intended 60km's) and any mtb race in Longmore (PE) is extremely tough
  19. Neither does Dischem in PE have KORU !
  20. I subscribe to the above MTB magazine and just want to give it a HUGE thumbs up ! A great read and lots to learn from it.Thanks guys.
  21. My current favourites are Run by Leona Lewis and The Climb by Miley Cyrus.I also enjoy Whitney Houston's new song.
  22. Sounds great.Hope to be able to buy at Dischem or one of our local cycle stores in PE
