  1. One Mr Carvhallo in my start group at 947 epitomized the S-works stereo type. Decked in everything S, had the looks, but in the bunch was all over the place. Everytime I landed up next to or behind him I had to either put in the effort to pass or drop back a bit, he was very erratic. He obviously stayed with the bunch after I dropped off as i saw him at the stadium afterwards. And what exactly was he doing when i saw him ? Pushing through against the traffic through the tunnel getting out of the stadium.
  2. before the days of GPS tracking even after the race I would not have been able to tell you which roads we took.
  3. I've hung on to bunches for dear life and have bunches hang onto me so often over the years it doesnt bother me anymore. Although I'm always surprised to see people hanging onto my wheel as I dont see myself as that strong. On Sunday heading back on the M1 I thought I was alone at one stage, looked back and the bloke behind me apologises saying he doesnt have the power to come to the front to help.
  4. but from what I understand from his post he is just wanting to use the rubber piece that holds the number board, so I dont see an issue.
  5. but you get "high quality white 947 Ride Joburg official t-shirt to the value of R290." I get inflation and decreased numbers pushing up the costs, but sheesh, soo to be paying R1000 for a 1 day bike race.
  6. that was a silly mistake by the rider. yes organisers should have had a mat over there, but if you've ridden a bike even just a little bit you'll know to cross those type of things at 90deg
  7. that an insane time for a solo effort. e-bike perhaps ? edit your bike does not look like an obvious e-bike (to me), thats an insane time bud.
  8. Saw you guys at the start, also passed a few stragglers from the club during the race. But have ridden with you guys about a year or so back in Alberton
  9. Albion Wheelers ?
  10. did a loop around the area on street view, I dont feel comfortable on those narrow roads. Will leave the road bike at home and just enjoy whatever trails they have available.
  11. this is what I'm worried about, there is a soft shoulder, ok for gravel or mtb, not so lekker for road bike. This is the road to and from the resort
  12. thanks for all the input folks will check out the routes mentioned
  13. 40 - 50 -60 km, thereabouts.
  14. they eventually covered that joint, but were warning people approaching
  15. how many entries did they have this year ? How many people actually started ? I'm seeing on FinishTime they are showing only around 9500 finishers (it was at 8500 yesterday afternoon though)
  16. what I'm seeing is that I only lost 17 min to the elite mens in the first half of the race.......... but a further 53 min for the second half
  17. when I was in school I'd see the news about flooding and see the boats rescuing people, so I devised a strategy in my head about how I'd be able to get our boat off the trailer and be able to head around the area helping people.
  18. Looks like I'll be spending a week pretty close to Peacan wood next month. The place we are staying advertise MTB trails, but as I'm a roadie I'm thinking of taking my road bike with. What are the roads like to ride there alone, probably will be early morning kind of thing. Looks like if I go around the dam I can string together a 40 or 50km ride. Alternatively I'll rent a mtb from the resort and just ride the trails. But ride I must, for my own sanity and to keep the peace.
  19. #cancelcones
  20. I've honestly never felt it was a scenic race, and I've done just about every iteration of the route since 1998
  21. how do you take a wrong turn on kyalami ? or did they skip the track completely ? My time has stayed the same over night, but I see I've slipped back in overall standings. Also see some people have batch positions but mine is still blank.
  22. What time did you end up with?
  23. Also seeding was really screwed for some. rode next to a guy in Randburg that was seeded in A, he was struggling. So I had a chat, says he only started riding 8 months ago, he has no idea why they stuck him in A
  24. I think the tail wind pushing us over the climbs coming back has been underestimated by many. I definitely felt like I was going up quicker than than the condition of my legs should have been able to push me
