  1. Also upgrading this month to 25mm GP4000s. That should be a nice little boost from my 23mm Rubino Pros.
  2. Take a look at this: http://www.tri2max.com/blog/2015/9/16/the-unappreciated-and-misunderstood-bike-tire
  3. I have shin splints. They are not bad yet according to my bio. She can feel where the muscle is pulling away from the bone. So she taped the area, did some myofascial release and said I needed to work on calf strength and ice my shins every evening. I can still keep on running, but cannot up my mileage, and just be careful. Been in such a good space with my running, as I was starting to not feel so terribly slow. Just goes to show that these couch to Ironman in 1 year plans are very optimistic. If I were going to do IMSA this year, I would have been in quite a bit of trouble right about now. Any other tips to heal up quicker and avoid the issue in the future?
  4. I have a two hour LSD scheduled this weekend. Any suggestions for where or an event to run. A bit bored of my old route in and around Fourways.
  5. You say that now. But, after race day and some rest, I suspect this will change. I can even see with my tri group that they are tired and testy. I am also not in a great place with my training (specifically my cycling), so took an off day yesterday, binge watched some new series and ate whatever I wanted. Feel a bit better today.
  6. These are all good points, but triathlon is not an easy hobby. Besides the expense, there is the constant drive to improve, and the hours are long. We do tend to put a lot of a pressure on ourselves. Well, I know I do, and my training partners do. We even put pressure on each other to perform or not miss training. The sport can also get quite lonely and requires a lot of time away from family and friends. A break or change is not a bad thing. Triathlon will always be there. I do know once I am done with a full IM, I will change focus to Comrades to change it up a little.
  7. IM events are terribly expensive. For around the same price as a 70.3, I can book myself on a 5 day, 5 scuba dive trip. I think the competition from the Ultra events is a good thing. The events just need more people.
  8. Haha. Running up Douglas is a good hills session I think. You guys looked strong!
  9. Thank you! Looking for a Sunday long run group. During the week I run with my tri-group. I saw a group this morning running up Douglas towards Grosvenor. Was that you guys?
  10. OMG. That is literally a few blocks from me... Soon all my training will have to be indoors...
  11. Sorry to hear. There is nothing wrong with not enjoying the sport. We are supposed to do this for fun, and it's important to keep this in mind. I do think the sport is really expensive, and with the economy slumping as badly it is, it is not surprising that the sport will take a hit. Maybe look for other events to join. Running in SA is massive, and I find all the running events I do to be awesome.
  12. Just a quick update on my New Balance shoe issue. Even though I put around 35km on the new shoes, New Balance swapped out the Lazrs I purchased, no questions asked. I didn't get a cash refund, but I was able to select a different shoe. Chose the 880s. Don't think I am going to have any issues with them. Great service from New Balance.
  13. Thanks ICM. Will look around to borrow or maybe hire a set. They also look fast and fancy - which always helps with motivation.
  14. I have been in this for 11 months, and I have spent so much money already. When I add it all up, it's quite a scary figure for something that is a hobby. Hubby is supportive, but it also feels like it's reaching a point where I am pushing it too much. There is also the fact that I don't really want to be riding around on a fancy Canyon, and I am slow as molasses. If I average 25km/ph, it's a really good day. Sorry, no offense to anyone out there. The Canyon Speedmax WNM 7.0 CF is my dream bike (even if it's just entry level), and I will carry on working towards it. One day that beauty will be mine.
  15. Thanks ICM. How are the GP4000s to change a puncture? I still battle a little to get the tyre off the rim with the softer Rubinos. Do you think there is a major difference between the two? Could just be a matter of practice. And I would love race wheels, but got to save for that tri bike. Hehehe.
  16. Just finished "Happy!". http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2452242/ Sounds ridiculous, but really appeals to my dark sense of humour and love for pushing boundaries. The show is very violent, so beware.
  17. I have also heard that rowing will help maintain running fitness. Swimming a mile a day becomes so tedious. At least with running, there is always something going on to keep our minds busy.
  18. Thanks. This makes sense too. The Conti tyres look good - so going to give them a look as well. My frame is the Cervelo S2. Will check out their website or contact the local distributor.
  19. So, this is a rather newbie question, but I have only recently started riding. My new road bike has just over 2,000km on it (and therefore my tires), and not sure when to replace my Vittoria Rubino Pro tires. They don't have any nicks on them where the tire makes contact with the road, but are very smooth. I found one spot on the side of the tire where I can see some metal mesh (not large at all). I must have made contact with a pavement somewhere, or a rock. How does one know when to replace tires? Also, I am going to swap out my 23mm tires for 25mm when I replace them. How can I tell if my frame and components can take the bigger tires?
  20. This thread is 3 pages. Not exactly a long read. Anyway. The organisers say yes, but there are some Hubbers that are skeptical of this claim as the route is along some major roads. No announcements have gone out yet. There is also a question of safety and controlling traffic. On top of that, there is a Colgate running road race which will make this race even more tricky.
  21. Will this race be ok for someone new to group riding if they kind of just ride on their own or in a relaxed group? Asking for a friend. Edit: An assuming there will be full road closures.
  22. It's a neutral shoe. Did a 13km run in them this Sunday. Was planning 15kms, but had to go home early as my feet started bleeding at the back. When I bought them, I was told they should last about 800km. Was planning on using them leading up to and for my Durban 70.3 in June. So longest distance in them will be 21km. It's a nice looking shoe, light, and feels fast. But I really don't think they are a long distance running shoe. More like a cross fit / short running distance shoe. They were ok-ish for the two shorter hills and threshold sessions I did in them (60 minutes each).
  23. Thanks. The numbness issue I could work with. The back of the shoe is just badly designed, and will eat away at the back of my foot no matter what. Will try take them back, but I have done a good 30km in them already. Will let you know how they respond.
  24. I got myself a pair of the New Balance Lazrs. Terrible, terrible shoe. Ripped the back of my feet to shreds and was battling with numbness from the pressure of the tied laces being too concentrated on the top of the foot (even though lacing was not tight) on my first long run. Very disappointed after having no issues in my 1080s.
  25. Is your wife seeing someone about her ITB? Comrades is very close, and she should probably see someone ASAP before she causes more damage.
