  1. Assume the angle between hand and forearm (i.e. angle at the wrist) would also be affected. Wider the bar, the smaller/tighter the angle. Potentially resulting in strain on the wrists. Also, assume the wider the bar the more your upper body will lean forward to reach the grips due to the end of the bars being further away than a narrower bar. Can be fixed with a shorter stem. Everybody's anatomy is different though.
  2. have the option to put my back on a holdfast towbar mounted rack, much prefer to take the time (and effort) to put my bike INSIDE my car. Fortunately I have the space. Far too many folks out there texting/reading while driving and braking late. One soft nudge or bump and your bikes toast.

  4. Ok maybe that was a bit harsh, but Im pretty sure there's a number of 26 vs 29 vs 650b threads out there. Or were those threads lost when the hub lost some data recently..?
  5. Please move this debate to one of the many threads already available on this topic.
  6. Thanks for the positive comments so far. @Rouxtjie, frame is a 3K carbon 27.5”/650B size small 17” matte black from FlyXII (on ebay their store name is a_baygoods). A specific model name or code wasn’t advertised or provided, just a description (3K carbon 27.5”…), can make the buying process tricky. Had good service though. @Face Plant, funny you mention the long stem my bro had the same concern and it was bothering me too. Replaced it yesterday with a shorter one and angled it upwards instead of down. Looks and feels muuuch better and the overall bike fit is now identical to my previous bike and fits me spot on. Anyone have a 110mm, 100mm or even a 90mm carbon Ritchey stem to swap for my carbon Ritchey WCS 120mm? @BBN, fork is also 3K carbon matte black from FlyXII (for a 27.5”/650B size small 17” frame). Just realized a correction to my initial post is needed: with a quality suspension fork a sub-9kg weight won’t be possible. Carbon rigid fork is 470g. Weight of decent suspension fork would be around +/-1500g. Adding the numbers the total weight would be sub-10kg. Will correct the initial post shortly.
  7. New build - carbon 27.5’er 650B 3k matte black + carbon rigid fork: Hi folks. Few months of research, sourcing of parts etc. and here she is. Have her just over a month now. Took the time to post some decent pics. Haven't gotten around to replacing the slightly dated saddle yet (gotten-around-to is pronounced ‘cant-afford-to’). Bar and stem position/height still needs adjusting or possibly replaced. 8.5kg wifff pedals. With a quality suspension fork pretty sure a sub-9kg weight can be maintained. edit: Carbon rigid fork is +-470g. Weight of quality suspension fork would be around +/-1500g. Adding the numbers together 9.5kg is within easy reach. Ordered some decals and ended up preferring the minimal simple look. Size 17". Haven't quite put her through her paces yet and cant comment much on performance but so far she feels sweet. Enjoy. http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l628/stressed_eric1/MTB/01.jpg http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l628/stressed_eric1/MTB/03.jpg http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l628/stressed_eric1/MTB/04.jpg http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l628/stressed_eric1/MTB/05.jpg http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l628/stressed_eric1/MTB/07.jpg http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l628/stressed_eric1/MTB/06.jpghttp://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l628/stressed_eric1/MTB/02.jpg

  9. http://conticomponents.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_41&products_id=376 Pricey (about R1700) but check the weight. 112g. Damn.
  10. interesting read. Acquired a set of second hand (practically new) MTB wheels, front shock & stem recently. Ensure everything working 100% before + after assembly. i.e. wheels true, shock fine, everything fitted perfectly etc. Go for first ride on road. Take hands off the bars for a second or 2. Bike pulls to the right & Im almost taken out by a bus. WTF. Try again & cant seem to balance with hands off the bars coz bike keeps pulling to right. Any ideas. Kinda sucks that I can never lift my hands to adjust my top, helmet, etc
  11. Some years back attempted commuting to work for the first time on my brand new cheapy MTB, locked her up in the dedicated bike bays on the pavement of a main road buzzing with cars & pedestrians, used a new pricey U-lock which was apparently impossible to open without the key or to break/cut, went out during lunch time & she was gone. So yeah…
  12. Also, those who didn't get a medal can collect one at their offices in Long street CPT. I did. If i remember correctly its number 154 but call to be sure.
  13. 5min before their reply. But this was a staff member's mailbox & not the info@grandstandmanagement.com mailbox which the staff member told me takes some time before they get through those mails.
  14. Got this from grandstand management today: From: xxxxx [mailto: xxxxx@grandstandmanagement.com] Sent: 12 April 2011 11:27 AM To: xxxxx Subject: RE: Vigne-a-Vigne race query (Re. race number 520) Dear xxxxx, The results were on the website, but we have a huge problem with them, because some of the riders who signed up to do the 50km did the 26km and now the times are all wrong because it reflects that a 50km rider completed the race in 1:25 (which is ridiculous) so we have someone trying to sort that out, because there is no point in posting results that are wrong. Sorry about the confusion and please be patient while we try to resolve this issue. Kind Regards xxxxxx Events Assistant Absa Cape Epic Email: xxxxx@grandstandmanagement.com Tel: +27 21 xxxxx
  15. Rafeeq always makes a plan. I know he's done so for me whenever I've walked in. Reasonable prices too.
  16. think it'll be best to start playing around with saddle height. Thats gona be the simplest & i'll take it from there. i was just sooo comfortable with my riding position for sum time until the pain started which i guess is the body saying "sumthin's wrong lad.." so yeah. Was actually planning a visit to my GP today until i posted this thread. tomorrow morning's ride will let me know if i've adjusted saddle height correctly. trial & error.. great responses so far, thanks hubbers. will update post after weekend.
  17. to clarify, feels like the pain is coming from inside the knee but more toward the back of the leg, however its not on the surface of the back of my leg, its deeper inside & toward inside/middle of knee. Definitely not toward or anywhere near the knee front. Funny thing is its just the left knee. Right is fine. Not to put a spin on things but few years back i had back pain (before cycling days) & specialists found my right leg to be approx 1cm shorter than the left which caused an imbalance when i walked, causing my pelvis to be at a lower level on the right side (compared to left) causing my spine not to be as upright as it should be & eventually resulting in lower back pain. i've since needed to wear an inner sole in my right shoe in order to correct the imbalance which, combined with back exercises, has reduced the back pain considerably. Strange thing is the right leg is 1cm shorter yet the knee pain is in my left leg? If right leg is shorter surely it should be stretching longer to complete the crank revolution when peddling meaning pain should be coming from right leg??
  18. hubbers, pretty sure someone has posted a topic related to this a few times already. if so please post a link so i dont waste anyone's time. however the pain im experiencing during a ride is a nagging pain which feels like its coming from inside or the back of my knee. Tolerable during the ride but afterwards while relaxing it gets slightly worse. started about 3 weeks ago when i started intensifying my training routine. Its gotten marginally worse since & after yesterdays relatively short ride today i found myself limping around the office a bit. when im not riding & taking it easy the pain is almost non existant. its only during & more so after a ride. & im a recreational cyclist so i dont put in nearly as much ride time as most. just worried at this rate i may not make the Argus which will be extremely dissapointing.
  19. Sad. RIP. Can anyone confirm his age?
  20. Hey hubbers. Im having a slight problem with my Delphi 5 & was hoping someone could assist. Bought the unit brand new sealed box, fitted it by following the instructions to the tee - correct distance between sensor on fork & main unit, correct distance between fork sensor & magnet, etc. & everything worked fine after the first ride. Parked the bike & next ride it never worked & hasn't worked since. When i hit the start/stop centre button there's no response & there's also no response when I start riding. Its set to auto start/stop. Removed the main unit from the handlebars & held it near to the sensor on the fork, pressed centre button & nothing happens. Spin the wheel & still nothing. Also made sure that when the magnet moves past the sensor, there is a slight click sound. The main unit just remains in the mode where the time is displayed & never changes from this mode while trying the aforementioned things. Please let me know if there is anything i can try. Just a little frustrating when a brand new unit stops working after working just fine on the first day/ride.
