  2. on my way down to Rhodes Memorial a paramedic stopped me and asked if I knew where the injured rider was. I said that I didn't but I saw the 4x4 making its way up from Town side and he said "yes they usually send help from both sides, Town and Rhodes".

  6. True Will be at Chelmsford rd 16h45'ish.
  7. Dont usually commute via the mountain but the road is becoming a bit boring & I'm looking to enjoy the mountain on my way home today. Will be at Chelmsford rd at about 17h15 today give or take a few min. Riding with like-minded riders is always a heckova lot more interesting than riding solo. If anyone's available to join get me on whatsapp or email & I'll reply. 0836882228 / stressederic01@gmail.com Regards
  8. repeated the ride on Sunday, phone was in a bank bag, on the downhill I stuck it inside my removable sleeve. Not the best place to keep it. Worked perfectly though.
  9. Forgot to secure my Note II during a speedy MTB descent on Table Mountain few weeks ago. Phone went flying from my back pocket and smacked the rocky terrain. Rider behind me spotted it and handed my very cracked phone to me when I stopped to adjust a brake lever. Touch functionality still worked perfectly. No insurance and Samsung's free glass replacement warranty doesn't apply to the Note II. Found a dude on gumtree that replaced my glass for R900. Did a decent job considering how tricky it is. Youtube shows that you need stacks of patience to do the job. Patience that I didn't have due to a trip abroad a few days later and I really needed a working phone asap. Love my Note II. Note 3 planned for my upgrade next month. Shouldn't ride with the darn thing especially considering the size, value, muggings, etc.
  10. and nobody mentions the importance of including some kind of personal identification in your kit. tsk tsk. Shame on all of you Loads of info on our cell phones I know but I throw in my drivers license card too.. just in case.
  11. Updated pics of my ride. http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l628/stressed_eric1/20130818_112315.jpg http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l628/stressed_eric1/mymtb.png http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l628/stressed_eric1/20130818_112909.jpg
  12. Assume the angle between hand and forearm (i.e. angle at the wrist) would also be affected. Wider the bar, the smaller/tighter the angle. Potentially resulting in strain on the wrists. Also, assume the wider the bar the more your upper body will lean forward to reach the grips due to the end of the bars being further away than a narrower bar. Can be fixed with a shorter stem. Everybody's anatomy is different though.
  13. have the option to put my back on a holdfast towbar mounted rack, much prefer to take the time (and effort) to put my bike INSIDE my car. Fortunately I have the space. Far too many folks out there texting/reading while driving and braking late. One soft nudge or bump and your bikes toast.

  15. New build - carbon 27.5’er 650B 3k matte black + carbon rigid fork: Hi folks. Few months of research, sourcing of parts etc. and here she is. Have her just over a month now. Took the time to post some decent pics. Haven't gotten around to replacing the slightly dated saddle yet (gotten-around-to is pronounced ‘cant-afford-to’). Bar and stem position/height still needs adjusting or possibly replaced. 8.5kg wifff pedals. With a quality suspension fork pretty sure a sub-9kg weight can be maintained. edit: Carbon rigid fork is +-470g. Weight of quality suspension fork would be around +/-1500g. Adding the numbers together 9.5kg is within easy reach. Ordered some decals and ended up preferring the minimal simple look. Size 17". Haven't quite put her through her paces yet and cant comment much on performance but so far she feels sweet. Enjoy. http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l628/stressed_eric1/MTB/01.jpg http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l628/stressed_eric1/MTB/03.jpg http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l628/stressed_eric1/MTB/04.jpg http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l628/stressed_eric1/MTB/05.jpg http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l628/stressed_eric1/MTB/07.jpg http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l628/stressed_eric1/MTB/06.jpghttp://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l628/stressed_eric1/MTB/02.jpg
  16. http://conticomponents.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_41&products_id=376 Pricey (about R1700) but check the weight. 112g. Damn.
  17. interesting read. Acquired a set of second hand (practically new) MTB wheels, front shock & stem recently. Ensure everything working 100% before + after assembly. i.e. wheels true, shock fine, everything fitted perfectly etc. Go for first ride on road. Take hands off the bars for a second or 2. Bike pulls to the right & Im almost taken out by a bus. WTF. Try again & cant seem to balance with hands off the bars coz bike keeps pulling to right. Any ideas. Kinda sucks that I can never lift my hands to adjust my top, helmet, etc
  18. Some years back attempted commuting to work for the first time on my brand new cheapy MTB, locked her up in the dedicated bike bays on the pavement of a main road buzzing with cars & pedestrians, used a new pricey U-lock which was apparently impossible to open without the key or to break/cut, went out during lunch time & she was gone. So yeah…
  19. Also, those who didn't get a medal can collect one at their offices in Long street CPT. I did. If i remember correctly its number 154 but call to be sure.
  20. 5min before their reply. But this was a staff member's mailbox & not the info@grandstandmanagement.com mailbox which the staff member told me takes some time before they get through those mails.
  21. Got this from grandstand management today: From: xxxxx [mailto: xxxxx@grandstandmanagement.com] Sent: 12 April 2011 11:27 AM To: xxxxx Subject: RE: Vigne-a-Vigne race query (Re. race number 520) Dear xxxxx, The results were on the website, but we have a huge problem with them, because some of the riders who signed up to do the 50km did the 26km and now the times are all wrong because it reflects that a 50km rider completed the race in 1:25 (which is ridiculous) so we have someone trying to sort that out, because there is no point in posting results that are wrong. Sorry about the confusion and please be patient while we try to resolve this issue. Kind Regards xxxxxx Events Assistant Absa Cape Epic Email: xxxxx@grandstandmanagement.com Tel: +27 21 xxxxx
