  1. They posted this on their FB event page: "Note that the 100Miler event will take place in 2021 again..." Was also really looking forward to it again this year, so lets hope that it really does make a comeback unlike the XCO World Cup we were promised would also be back. Agree with Jewbacca, give Swartberg 100 a go it's a real bucket list event.
  2. Really sucks! Gutted baboon is (hopefully not "was") one of my favorite trails. Honestly don't think people understand how much hard work goes into trail building. Hopefully things get resolved and lessons are learned.
  3. Hopefully this will spark others into posting theirs.
  4. Sunglasses are still covered in sealant but really enjoyed the event! Favourite part of the route has to be the first mx style descent. And wow what a privilege it was to be able to ride through the Khwa ttu center.
  5. Big fan of Emily Batty. Looks like she's recently changed her dietary approach to LCHF. She posted a "what I eat in day" video on her YouTube channel earlier this month (will try link it below). Definitely an asset to have on team keto! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTopJ5vqjmk
  6. Majority of strava app users don't pay for the premium version, so I guess they have had to implement strategies to boost revenue. Pretty sure they getting big $ from the likes of Zwift and Sufferfest etc for the paid promotion. Should probably give premium users the option of not seeing any advertisements if they wish not to. However you can block whatever you want via a chrome extension called stravini. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/stravini/ilogdlddgndehmpabkafohhfapaopgkd?hl=en
  7. Check this out... https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/159261-ruby-vs-esi-grips-vs-luvhandles/?hl=esi
  8. Everything dirtypot said! Hell of a lot cheaper than ESI and you get to choose what colour bar end plugs you want. Put a pair on almost 6 months ago now after reading rave reviews here on thehub and they look like I put them on yesterday despite many hours and more crashes than I care to confess . If they ever do wear out I will get another pair of exactly the same grips.
  9. Different strokes for different folks.
  10. Hidden gem and personal favourite climb on the Tygerberg trail network is at Conties, the Black Rhino climb all the way up to the mast. Strava segment has it at 291m elevation gain at an average of 13% gradient. It goes along the fence between Conties and Kliprug. You don't have to go all the way up you can turn left and drop down into happy hops, cheeky corners, dh main line, revised dh line, supertubes or carry on up the concrete strip all the way to the top. Lots of options and pretty technical mainly because it's so steep and you go so slow that keeping your line is challenging on the rocky bits.
  11. Flip, time flies! The trail signs are complete just need to get out there and put them up. That being said the trail is riding really awesome at the moment and is loads of fun. The off camber section through the forest is a nice challenge and has a hundred and one rocks waiting to bite your pedals. Body position and weight distribution are key to unlocking this trail. Full loop is 10-15 minutes including the jeep track climb back to the start. Remember the trail is free, inspect before you ride (especially the rock garden) and have fun!
  12. Noted! Just had a chuckle thinking back to Yzerfontein where the Savages tricked you into riding your gravel rig. Think I remember somebody saying that the 2nd climb/pass of the day was extremely rocky, and the area is notorious for it's corrugated roads.
  13. Hi LWB, Ikons come in at 150g lighter per tyre and provide bucket loads more grip. A few more pro's would be that they are more readily available than the Crossmark, have the updated EXO casing, available in 2.35 width and come in skinwall option if you are into that look. Personally run a Aspen 2.25 at the back and Ikon 2.35 on the front and for me that's more than enough.
  14. It is weird right! Quick google search didn't return anything promising locally. Had the same problem a few months back and managed to get a pair from CWC. It wasn't listed on their website but they had a pair in somewhere in the shop. New hoods felt mint.
  15. Yip agree with Droo. Just remember when it comes to grease, more is not always better. And keep your grubby paws off of the rotors. Good luck .
  16. Had a time crunched weekend but still managed to get out onto the trail and do some digging. We rebuilt the run-in to the gap jump, so one can carry more speed and focus on the jump rather than just dodging rocks. The landing has also been widened and made a little more "case friendly" after a few complaints of damaged rims. Oh yes and we made the gap about a foot bigger. Also worked on on some new trail signs which we will look at putting up as soon as we get a chance. Next weekend we will look at making the b-lines to the gap jump and rock garden more beginner friendly. Although the main goal of the trail was to create a technical playground for people to improve their skills, lots of riders avoided the trail altogether as the b-lines to a few sections were simply to daunting to tackle. With that in mind we have started making the b-lines more rideable but not a complete walk in the park, a few easier c-line options have been added. It's still a tight and technical trail with little to no free flow. The challenge is to hit the right lines, work on improving your skills and create your own flow throughout the trail. Enjoy everyone!
  17. To give you peace of mind the trail is on private land and boarded (electric fenced and has CCTV cameras) to the west and south by the Costantia Nek Estate. Have often ridden and done some trail maintenance by myself but as always I do always feel safer with a buddy (but that's the case with any trail). So like porqui said, I would go with safe (touch wood) but like you said it is SA after all. PS: Porqui built the trail a few years back so has the inside scoop.
  18. Almost right! From the parking lot opposite Contantia Nek La Parada you go 100 meters down the road towards Hout Bay. You’ll see a gravel road that kicks up on your left, turn left here. Continue on the gravel road for around 400 meters and the trail entrance will be your right. The trail entrance is pretty wide open so you shouldn’t miss it unless you try really hard. Trail is well marked from there so just follow the signs and inspect the A lines first before attempting. There is a fork in the trail that says “Mineshaft” to the right and “B-line” to the left. Take the B-line to continue on the original XCO loop, it’s not really a B-line you’ll see what I mean. The Mineshaft was designed as a additional technical practice feature but is currently overgrown and needs some work before it can be ridden again. Otherwise have fun out there and let us know how it goes.
  19. Another good weekend of gardening on the trail . Tight, technical and free to ride. Go check it out!
  20. Going by previous answers to similar questions I don't think the Captain will give much away except for "we ended on good terms" which is fair enough. Just go ride the new corridor and your interest in the old one will dissipate very quickly, it's amazing! I now purposefully included it into my loop where as I avoided the old one like the plague. Thanks TMBC.
  21. Awesome dig session yesterday. Thank you to those who came along, it was good vibes all round .
  22. Another A++ review for Rapide! Order placed yesterday afternoon 14:30 and item arrived 09:00 am this morning. Kudo's must also go out to The Courier Guy for delivery, they clearly make a good team along with Rapide. Have used many of their products without fuss so far (touch wood) so i'm pretty sure this item with be spot on. Thanks!
  23. Not all mountainbikers are d*cks and not all trail runners are friendly. Often feel to bad to demand that somebody just move out of my way with the click of finger (or ring of a bell) so I just slow right down to runners/walkers pace and politely announce my presence before passing politely and saying thank you, enjoy the run/walk. Surely logic dictates that when using public/shared trails you need to ride or run for that matter with caution and not reckless abandon. Rather save the racing for race day or if that's not your thing then a specified section of trail where only mountain bikes are allowed. That being said I have often followed the "correct protocol" and been polite as possible only to still be verbally attacked and told to go do many wonderful things. As mentioned above rather be safe and follow rule #1.
