No, unless you are riding a single speed bike, there is no relationship between speed and cadence. Gears are designed to give you a different cadance at the same speed.

Great interview with Daryl in Pez and his future sounds great! Who would have thought that two year ago when he had that interview with Andrew on Supersport? Took a grilling, but came out fighting! Anyway, it all sounds great, but he does throw a bit light on the weird SA showing at the Worlds. Indeed, others would have killed for those places, but in SA we only care about winners. They make a lot of sense in Europe where it is muddy in winter and you get to ride some cyclo-cross races, but for SA I don't see the point. Maybe some of the flatter/less technical courses might be cyclo-cross friendly, but that's not really what they are made for. They are made for going hard for an hour in mud/road conditions. The upright position and high BB position makes them a bit weird for road riding (and especially SA style wheelsuck racing!!), but if you want to have fun on the road and ride on the verge now and then it makes sens. Great commuting bike too.

Funny this greeting thing. When you go out walking in town, do you greet all the walkers? Do you wave at other motorists when you ride in your car? Then why the obsession with manners when you cycle? I chickened out on Ventoux after Annecy and Bourg St Maurice this year, but Ventoux is still on my to do list! Also waiting for my son to grow up a bit more so he can ride the camper between campsites and be our support guy (my wife is somehow unwilling to spend her holidays in support mode...)
