  1. Well, I didn't expect anything less from John. He was the backbone of Willie E's shop and was always very helpful and friendly in his quiet way. Great to hear he is keeping up the good work at his own shop!
  2. I might be mistaken, but that looks like a Strandloper ASAP podium?!?! Nice! Vulgar is a power machine. Nice win, but what's with the pink shirt? Did Daikin lead the league then or what have I missed?
  3. Well, I got my Engineering degree 15 years ago so I like to think that I do too, but after reading this thread apparently not. Looks like physics has changed a lot since then. Maybe my degree expired? I got my undergrad only two years ago and I am shocked at how quickly I have forgotten some basic principles I learned in first year. A quick flick through the physics textbook reminded me that its still there ... somewhere ... I think Sounds like you guys haven't gotten to the chapter on sarcasm yet? No hang on, they don't teach you that at Engineering school right? Sorry, got to run. Enjoy the mental masturbation boys!

  5. Man, the application of "science" on this thread is just too painful to even discuss. Wow, Newton has had a couple of new laws ripped into him this week. Everyone adds their bit of pseudo-bike-science, which makes some sort of sense if you read it really really fast, but somehow it all just smells a bit off. A bit like BS methinks (Not you of course Bikemonster. You have come back from the dark side so all is forgiven. For now...)
  6. Very true!
  7. Roadies actually sound like a nice bunch after reading that story! At least one cage driver agrees that they belong on the road (unlike the mean, misplaced and misguided mtb'er yuppies!!!) Anyway, what's with everyone getting so upset about cyclists at Vida? Don't the other coffee shops count anymore? I need an espresso now.
  8. Just evolution I fear
  9. Interesting observation about the change of The Hub. I have vague idea what Twitter is but please explain to me how it affects/affected this forum. Well, evryone used to share info on their rides, chat about experiences, training info and it all moved to Twitter and I miss a lot of the old Hubbers . I know you are probably only interesed in the technical discussions, but even that is few and far between. Want to know what the CSA guy are diong? Check Twitter, want to know how the DC was, check Twitter etc. etc. Twitter is fun, but a bit too 'look at me' to be healhy.
  10. Twitter killed the Hub a long time ago. Now it's all about buying and selling and the occassional abuse thrown in for good measure. Don't think another site will be able to live in this environment
  11. OK, I don't get it. How come Armstrong was wearing the stripes in the TT?
  12. I have some at home that I got when I bought my shorts but have never used it? Do you put it directly onto the chamois or onto your gooch? A personal choice indeed. I prefer to apply it directly to the sensitive areas. A nice fat glob on each side between leg and goolies do just fine for me. Remember, no double dipping if you are sharing the pot with someone else!
  13. 1. Eat and drink 2. Shammy cream 3. Eat and drink
  14. Here goes the credit card again!!!!!! Sorry, but it has to happen! Second from the left, obviously:
  15. You HAVE to get some of those Schwalbe's with the red line in them. Will make the bike complete!!! Racing Ralphs or Furious Freds come out in the red stripe I think
  16. Phew, I just read the details. Great to know the rider is OK! Could have been very, very nasty.
  17. Sht, that's horrible!!! This is the one you were trying to sell wasn't it? Glad to hear you are OK. How are YOU doing?
  18. and I though tennis elbow was painful...
  19. Indeed, I was so rudely awakend I am still having trouble sleeping!! In fact, I miss the tranquil group ride around Killarney on Wednesday afternoons a lot. At least there I was allowed to finish...
  20. They do?? Nobody told me that. Let me see' date=' why do I cycle?? 1. To have fun (sorry if that upsets you) 2. To get out and ENJOY myself (so sorry if that upset you) 3. To get fit, oh, and have FUN (sorry if this upsets some) so tell me this - why DOES it always have to be about who is riding the best, winning and and and......... I can tell you with 100% certainty that I have no interest in racing but that shouldn't mean that I cannot join a club and do something that I love!!! And if certain clubs do not want to take on the recreational/fun rider then they should make that clear up front!!! [/quote'] Puncture girl, you got me wrong! I mean the guys with the 'mean attitude' in those clubs all want to be racers!!! I am commenting out of experience here in Holland. Here you get loads of touring clubs here with the aim of just riding for fun. They do organised (untimed!) rides and have members of all ages, but mostly older and up to their 80's in some instances! The guys who fancy themselves as racers join the hardcore clubs. Unfortunately that line is blurred in SA and that is what I meant. There should be clubs/groups dedicated to just riding for FUN. Thanks for clarifying and I apologise for ripping into you. No, don't apologise, that's what forums like these are for. It's good to vent the anger! Just remember that just because someone sits on a saddle and pedals in cicrcles, it doesn't make them all think and act the same. Some people are idiots even before they get on a bike! Try to find like minded people before joining them for a ride

  22. They should really have seperate touring clubs and racing clubs in SA. That way you know what you are getting into and everyone has fun. The problem is that every funrider wants to be a racer and this causes the problem. Join a club who wants to have fun.
