    The Munga

It was very tough. Must say the 1st 30hrs or so with the wind and corrugations was the toughest I've experienced on the bike. Had lots of temp fluctuations as well - dropped to 2 degrees between Britstown & Loxton and was 34 degrees when going into Tankwa - this was at 7 in the evening. And then the wind from hell blew through the Tankwa that night. Was moving at 6km/h on the flats. Lay on the floor at Da Doer padstal for about 6 hours before setting out into the wind again. That stretch from Tankwa Padstal to Matroosberg was also a killer and I had a good walk up Bloubank. Got in in about 103hrs Sunday night. Very tired and very sore. @Mamil - didn't know it was you we did the Loxton razzle with...Well done on the finish!
  3. Yoh! The explosive one is still ticking😁
  4. I might be wrong but you probably meant DJR?
  5. Guess I should go and read that email then...if I didn't delete it.
  6. Did I miss a press release or something? Only one event scheduled?
  7. Also joined in 2009. Was looking for a roadbike to start dabbling in Triathlon - bought a 2004(I think) Raleigh RC8000 from ChunkyMonkey which is now doing duty on the trainer. I used BikeHub more than Google when I wanted the answer to something😄
  8. That would be oom Hendrik or BigH
  9. @DieselnDust - How did it go, was it the marathon you expected?
  10. The downloadable race guide provides a fairly good breakdown of what will be available where. They used to have what they liked to call 'Powerwater - said in Afrikaans' besides water and Coke at the CP's but can't recall seeing it there this here. There is more than enough available in my opinion and if you like something specific ito nutrition carry it with in ziplock bags or send it in the boxes. We usually pop a recovery shake/meal replacement in a couple of the boxes in case you do not feel like soup or sosatie wors at certain times. A Lucozade in the box/with your support also an option. Some wetwipes in your box at Bergplaas nice to have especially if you are planning to change into some warmer and dry clothes. My 2c.
  11. Aaah ok oops my bad! Looks like even better weather for the Repeat...
  12. Hi Diesel, How did you guys go? That tailwind should have pushed the pacing a bit? We came in in 13.45 - should have gone better but I had to manage the HR a bit - something brewing in the body..
  13. This must be the only race in the world where people moan about singletrack😁 But I agree, after 220km it is the last thing you look forward too, especially if it is wet and muddy.
  14. Should be a bit quicker if the current wind prediction is accurate...I've ridden a 22 hour before(what an 'adventure' that was) and loads between 14 to 16 hours, we get our values worth😁
  15. Hi Diesel, There is a split time calculator on the website which you can download and play around with IIRC. I would guess 10 hours to Bergplaas wil put you in the 16 to 17 hour total time or what are you aiming for? This was our roughly 14 hour ride from last year: Start to CP1 - 02.05 CP1 to CP2 - 02.25 CP2 to CP3 - 01.15 CP3 to CP4 - 01.50 CP4 to CP5 - 02.15 CP5 to CP7 - 01.50 CP7 to Finish - 01.15 We spent about 1 hour at the checkpoints finishing in just over 14 hours. Hope this helps.
