  1. Had a call from my cousin in P.E. this morning, one of a group of 8 guys training for IMSA was hit by a car this morning on a training ride. Please keep him, his family and the rest of the guys in 'Mansgenoeg' in your thoughts and prayers, he is currently in hospital being operated on. Bad damage to his leg, concussed but stable. Please guys, lets be safe out there. Details not clear but it sounds like he was at fault. Tried to cross over to the other side of the road when he heard the car coming from behind, at the same instant that the car decided to pass them by going into the opposite lane...
  2. Sad news indeed. Has there been a marked increase in these incidents or are we all just more tuned to it and its getting more/quicker exposure?
  3. I was thinking the exact same thing, going to take the mtb next year and go for at least 8 hours, couple of pub stops included / visiting all the waterpoints and maybe a pre-finish meal at panarottis or something...
  4. Came in at 4.43 from ZZ, didn't train nearly enough, guess one 85km training ride and some spinning just doesn't cut it but still enjoyed myself a lot, the slow pace I was going at after Smits made the view so much better...
  5. Agree, I only saw one guy in my starting group wearing one(granted I started in ZZ)...Most of the guys on here probably finished by then...
  6. Was my 1st Argus as well, what an awesome experience!!! Most beautiful scenery one can ask for and crowd support to match. This will be penned into my calender for many years to come...
  7. Sounds like a good deal, seeing is believing though...
  8. Easy solution, do everything, moan with everybody
  9. Theres a drop-down box where you can change this...Just under the topic.
  10. Rode my first competitive road and mtb race last year. Do not want to generalize, but the 'vibe' at the mtb event and road event differed a lot, with the mtb one being more relaxed & friendly than the road one. Sure, I encountered some rude riders in the mtb event but not nearly as many as in the road race. Mtb riders just seems more tolerant/friendly/helpful during a race...
  11. I agree with all that has been said about spinning. Think one must try to find a balance. Due to time constraints I do one 45min spin & one 90 min spin a week(with the instructors I like and who mixes it up, i.e. sprints, strength work,'rolling hills'), 2 cross training sessions a week(weight training to improve overall strength) and on Saturday/Sunday I hit the road/dirt.
  12. Talking of runways' date=' did you know we have a runway in SA (in mafikeng) thats almost 5km long? Heard somewhere that its a alternate landing strip for the space shuttle if they miss their entry point. We had a skydiving boogie there once, that thing is huge, cool to see from the air[/quote'] You're correct on the above, longest in the southern hemisphere that one. Think there's one in Langebaan thats also extra long.
  13. Think it can carry more than 800 if I'm not mistaken...
  14. Its a difficult one, I would personally give the guy who 'dibs' / offers to buy first preference, but sometimes you also stand the risk of the guy pulling out, and you turned away guys with the cash ready...Guess it will come down to 'Cash is King' with the first one in, taking away the blingWow thats some lame rhyming.
  15. Short and to the point - MadMike has got the formula right when posting For Sale ads, IMO.
  16. Thx Shaun, the main pro for me with the ride-on is that it seems very easy to use, but is also the pricier option. To fit a towbar is alreadty around R2k, hopefully a bit less for me, but then again, you can't place a price on the safety of the bikes... At least I know that the roofracks hold on to your bike!!! Aish, that must've been a costly exercise. I'll have to do the old yellow sticker on the windscreen to remind me thing if I go for that option. I like this option just for keeping the bikes away from the dust & debris on the road, although you might pick up some bugs on the roof...at least nothing in the drivertrain. Thx again for the advice!!!
  17. Thx Droo, so thats one point for option 1. Found the 'other' brand you referred to as well.
  18. Hi Hubbers, Need some advice on the best type of carrier to fit, obviously keeping cost in mind. I have a hatchback and need to transport at least 2 bikes most and 3 bikes sometimes. I do not have a towbar fitted at present. Safety of the bikes when transporting is my major concern, not to bothered by fuel economy. Options: 1. Fit towbar to vehicle and purchase towbar mounted carrier - not sure about cost but probably not less than R3k for this exercise. 2. Fit roofracks to vehicle and purchase bike carriers - not sure about cost but probably same as above, especially when fitting Thule. 3. Purchase bootlid mounted carrier - cost much less than above options but concerned about stuffing up hinges of boot as well as some reports heard of bikes falling off some of these. Please help, any suggestions or experiences you can share!!!
  19. I would go for the Silverback Saturn...
