  1. When I started cycling - 3 yr's ago - I always felt good if the "kitted" rider greeted me or returned my greeting. I looked a sorry sight with peddals - like your childs tricycle's - and a top which made me looked like a stuffed sausage, as I weighed 107 kg and a bike to not remember. Down to 90kg now - and losing - and I greet people, even the pedestrians thats walking in my direction. I now have a full carbon, this weekend's race at 2.52 and still find it good to see "oros men and women" and it keeps me on my feet and to eat humble pie...because I was there.
  2. Used the vanilla after the first 40 min, and at the halfway mark I downed the green whasp. Felt good after the race, and must say I did not have a problem with the taste and sweat mixed and my 2.52 was good enough for me. My group just did not wait for me, otherwise I could have done better
  3. I give spinning at 3 different places, including VA. I think; it's not what you say, but how you say it. It is disruptive if somebody comes late and you have not seen the person before, knowing his/her abilities. If you have a problem, contact Sonja. Her number can be obtained from any VA, and she is somebody that will help you, as it's her responsibility to manage the instructors. . And yes.... they pay crappy fees to instructors. Much less than other places. But like somebody said; it's for the enjoyment of the classes.
  4. put the strap on the back, and leave the twins free from any obstruction.
  5. Amazing! Now I'm even more full of hope! What age do you think I should stop expecting a call-up to the Proteas? I was a useful opening batsman for the school first team in Stds 9 and 10... 12 boys in the school? I agree with you Sean, in the Argus a guy of 72 put ears on thousands last year....
  6. Sheesh... you only spoke to 3 smart people in 12 hours? Jeez Bob that's me, you and I wonder who else ............... who is this jeez bob fellow? My Iranian cousin... he the dude that runs the mosque on atlas road? does he wear a dish cloth or a helmet?
  7. I have ridden with OB in the TdF group in the mornings, and he sure as nuts can ride. I have followed this thread and seen all the comments about him and how the whole thing has degenerated into some harsh comments and accusations. To which I cannot add, as I have only been a cyclist for 3 years now, and don't know the ins and out's about all the rules and cheating etc which was mentioned on this thread. But I for one, would be interested to see him partaking again in the races and the effect it would have on the podiums. I'm sure some arses are going to get kicked big time. My understanding is that there are quite a few prominent cyclist with some skeletons, still doing races and doing quite well. Just a comment, not partial, but giving the man a chance again. Maybe it would be good for the sport to have him back again.
  8. the 2 most important things while riding in a group is 1)don't overlap the rider in front of you's back wheel. A sudden swerf and he takes you out. 2)while in a group and your'e not in front, don't look back, because you will fall and take others with you. Good luck, and welcome to cycling. Find a second job, because once hooked, you will want to upgrade.
  9. a memorial for each time a cyclist came off his/her bike...
  10. Depends on your ability...... If I compare it to my other races in 2007' date=' the time spent per kilometer is 6% slower than my avg and 21% slower than my fastest race. Make any sense?[/quote'] Would that be compared to something like the 94.7 or more like the Fast One? Is the 21% based on 116km or about a 100k's?
  11. scotty's words of wisdom; "let the pain begin" Never did it before, but understand it's one to avoid if you have all your faculties operative...
  12. Easy ... don't listen Classic radio is available....
  13. Perhaps it's the cost to get to JHB with the fuel prices, less road bike cyclist due to the dangers to train, and we don't know yet what the impact is going to be on the Argus entries yet...The Argus was normally full after 3 weeks, so let's see how long it takes this year. My tiekie's worth
  14. Came down in the Bakwena last year @ about +/- 40 km's. Broke a rib, concussion and internal bleeding. So doff, did'nt want to go to the doctor because the 94.7 was the following week. Rode the 94.7 - 3.25 was hoping for a sub 3 - and went to see the doctor on the Monday...Off the bike for 4 weeks...Always know better being a cyclist... Don't get flu when your ribs are off, and don't sneezzzz....
  15. I received this on our Standard Bank Club news letter, and cut and paste it as it is from our secretary. 94.7 SEEDING RACES<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> I have had a communication from the 94.7 race office stating that they are using the national seeding index and any race that you participate in which is over 90km?s, will be used for seeding purposes. To go to the Argus is much more expensive in real terms of cost, if you travel down to C.T. and that would be the same for the capies doing the 94.7 I think I will do the train ride next year..cheaper.
  16. Here we go again... such a deep revelation...
  17. I would have just sat down and cried if it happened to me. I don't think you can ask your friend to pay, as accidents do happen, but the insurance should be the route to take. Putty and paint... nah.. not the same.
  18. Why don't u do a poll with all the different tyres?
